Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Overal just a great hotel. They could improve on their knowledge about the Laos side Mekong slow boats. Information about depature times, and even slow boat bookings would be a plus!

AustriaWe stayed only a night, so cannot judge a lot about this place. It had all we needed. The staff was nice and played with our kid while we were eating - great service so we can have 5min in rest. You can borrow umbrellas and it is in walking distance from the Chiang Mai/Chiang Khong bus stop in Chiang Khong (400m). We booked the agency for slow boat to Luang Prabang recommended by the hotel and it worked out smoothly.

United StatesOnce you get past the facade of the exterior and the lobby, the hotel presents as much older than it actually is due to a lot of deferred maintenance and neglect. It is clearly the nicest hotel in the rural area and it seems ownership has rested on those laurels (perhaps tragically, like many places, out of necessity while recovering from the consequences of COVID lockdowns). The air conditioning initially did not blow cold, and upon checking the filter was filthy with a thick layer of dust and dirt. We asked for it to be cleaned and the staff eagerly did so while we enjoyed a walk and dinner at a restaurant along the river. It was spotless upon our return, with the air blowing strong and cold. The executive suite I booked was a single room (making it not a suite, but a standard room) and did not have a desk (making it not very "executive"). I booked this type of room because I work nights and sleep days, and naively assumed there would be a separate sleeping space (implied by suite) and a dedicated workspace / desk (implied by "executive"). Finding neither, I asked for permission to use the smallest vacant meeting room in the basement to work at night, so as not to keep my wife awake or disturb other guests with late-night online meetings (I even offered to pay for the privilege). This was summarily denied (I believe due to hotel policy) but the staff did eagerly try to accommodate me in many other ways. They offered me a place to work in the lobby, brought a fan out for me, offered me bug spray and the very next morning brought a rolling table and a convention-style high-backed chair to my room so I could work in my room in the early evening until my wife went to sleep. This was not ideal - but clearly the staff did their best to creatively accommodate me within the bounds of policies set by ownership and management, which was endearing. Ultimately, it worked out just fine for me.
I hope the management of this hotel recognizes how lucky they are to have such exceptional staff - absolutely committed 100% to supporting their guests. The score of our review would be much, much lower if not for the staff working so hard to take care of us in every way. We were so grateful they were there and would certainly come back because of how well they took care of us. What really struck us (especially here in 2025 when such experiences are so rare) was how deeply the staff's heart was in their work. Sometimes, you can feel that staff are only taking care of you because it is their job. Every single staff member we interacted with at the hotel - from front-desk staff to restaurant staff to housekeeping and maintenance - it was clear they were taking care of us because their heart was committed to caring for their guests. We felt truly like guests visiting distant family rather than customers of the hotel. It was a warm, welcoming feeling that's almost impossible to find in the modern age. The beds are super comfortable, with luxury mattresses and sheets. The air conditioning was cold (after cleaning, see below) and the shower was hot with good water pressure. The Hotel sits on the Mekong river and offers gorgeous views from the rooms, the balconies of the rooms, the restaurant, the lobby seating areas and the veranda. Bicycles are offered free of charge for riding around the local area - where there is a 7eleven, a few places to get traditional Thai massage and a few small markets, restaurants and family-owned general shops. There is a boardwalk in front of the hotel along the river that runs for several hundred meters in both directions - great for sunrise or sunset walks. Also - don't miss the "Tom Yom" restaurant about 200m north of the hotel along the riverfront road. We particularly enjoyed an evening meal at sunset here, where the food was tasty and the staff was kind.

United KingdomExecutive room was probably a bit over priced for what it was but I still enjoyed it. Breakfast is quite basic buffet and was ok.
My room looked out over the Mekong so it was great to just sit and enjoy the view. Staff were also very helpful and helped me check in earlier than anticipated. Food in the restaurant was very good for lunch and evening meals.

United KingdomIt is a quirk of mine that I always check my route out of multi-storey hotels should there be a fire/emergency. It helps me feel safe. In this instance I was horrified to see the stair well was blocked behind the fire escape door with spare furniture on all the levels down to the ground floor. Not good at all.
This hotel was really very nice. The staff were charming and helpful, particularly the reception staff. We didn't use the pool which looked very pleasant. We did use the free bicycles to ride along the river cycle path and into town, they were not well maintained but did the job. The bed was comfortable, the shower great and we had a lovely balcony overlooking the river and enjoyed a good dinner and breakfast at the hotel on the patio overlooking the river. The staff kindly did us a vegetarian dinner which was much appreciated.

ThailandI missed a desk with a chair in my room. An odd thing at breakfast: cereals, including muesli, were available, but no milk or yoghurt. After asking, the staff brought me one cup of yoghurt. More options for vegetarians would be nice.

New ZealandNothing major, the only small gripe would be that the hotel restaurant prices were high and options limited. We ended up having to adventure into town to find more reasonably priced food which is a shame as we would have liked to have had dinner here with the view!
We stayed at Fortune Riverview for just one night but very much enjoyed our stay. The staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English. They arranged us a transfer to the border the following morning that was cheaper than a tuktuk in town would have been. The room was probably one of the best we had in Thailand, clean, comfortable and spacious. The balcony had wonderful river views and we enjoyed our evening sat watching the river and Laos slowly descend into darkness. Breakfast was great, good options and decent coffee. My only ask would have been for some fried rice as well as boiled rice just to add a bit of variety. Otherwise well worth picking as your stay if you want to break your journey to/from Laos up!

The room was very nice, with a nice view on the river and the staff were very nice. Before going to stay in this hotel I stayed in The heritage hotel in Chiang Rai, which was a real disappointment. It is rated as a 5 stars BUT IT IS NOT !!!!! and the reception were not friendly or helpful. So it was a real joy to have a very nice Hotel The fortune riverview and friendly staff. With my job I travel all the time all around the world so I know what I should get !@@!

ThailandThe menu could have some other "western" selections added. Not everyone likes fish meals. The room needs a desk to work at and the bench seating is never going to be comfortable, so add a nice comfortable chair or mini sofa.
The breakfast was adequate, but nothing special. They could do much more. I liked the view from the balcony. The staff were super pleasant and helpful, My friend appreciated the free bikes.
