Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Central location with a mixture of cool people and friendly staff who made you feel welcome instantly. Offers easy access to phanganian lifestyle (motorcycle rental at the site, sport possibilities, updated party guide on the main board and suggestions for activities at the reception).

United KingdomI booked a room with a balcony as I prefer being up high. But when I got there it was given to someone else who arrived before me. I was then given a bungalow which was nice and quiet off the main road but not the cleanest, has a problem with ants in this room they are everywhere. Bed sheets and pillows were stained a little.
Great location. Friendly staff.

United KingdomMy experience with Phangan Arena (also known as Leo Hostel) was incredibly frustrating. Despite having a confirmed private room reservation through Booking.com, upon arrival we were told all private rooms were full. Apparently, even with a confirmed online booking, the hostel doesn't actually reserve the room until you pay in person – a policy not clearly stated on Booking.com. This meant our months-in-advance booking was essentially worthless. We were forced into a dorm room, which was incredibly disappointing. It seems this is a common issue, as other reviews mention the same problem. Booking a private room here is pointless, as it's unlikely to be available when you arrive.

United KingdomThe name isn't legit - this place is actually called Phangan Area. I had been there before we booked the stay, and didn't like the vibe, nothing awful just not my cup of tea. If I had known this was the same place I wouldn't have booked it! They clearly have two listings just to mislead people or the authorities or whatever else. We booked a private twin room. they put us in the wrong room initially which was quite literally in the bar/social area, which was incredibly loud. The room also had a double bed, when we booked a twin. They refunded us a bit for the mixup without being asked, however I had to go and complain before they moved us into a triple room with two beds (somewhere quiter) They could have just done that already out of courtesy, and I didn't really appreciate the customer service up until this point, it was really dismissive. The next day we were moved to our actual room, which also had a double bed in it. It took almost two hours for them to install a mattress with bedding, again it might not sound like a massive deal but I was literally waiting to have a nap before a very long night and didn't manage to have one because of this. The room was also cramped because of the lack of space (it had a double and a single mattress in it), and had pretty much nothing in the way of shelves, storage, secondary lighting and furniture etc. I will say that the volunteer and service staff were great, my only gripe is with the management/owners who really didn't seem like they gave a toss about us. The room window didn't have any mosquito netting, they got in even when it was closed and we got bitten pretty badly most nights. The toilet/shower didn't drain properly so it was soaking wet all week and smelt terrible. The room was right next to a boxing gym which made a lot of noise most mornings.
It was a great place to meet people, it had a mini gym and a decent little pool, cheap drinks and good bar/food service. Football pitch next door too, free to use.

GermanyThe reception was for 3 or more hotels inkl. a terrible looking hostel. More than 20 backpacks careless on the floor. 3 girls tried to attend the queuing guests with little success. Noisy, a waiter wanted to prepare me a chicken (?). They told us they had only dorm for us. I am 71 years old and refused. I asked them again and again to organise another room in the neighborhood . No answer. Then I started calling tourist police. They called one of the owners, a friendly guy, who brought us to a nice Beach Bungalow instead of the double room, but charged only the double room. Nevertheless what I saw and experienced from Leo hostel was shocking.
We got a seaside bungalow instead of a standard double room. The round bungalow was small, but well equipped, clean.

NetherlandsI hated the fact that there was not 1 comfortable spot to chill on. It was all hard chairs and benches, or the reclining pool chair in the sun (usually wet). The beds arent that comfortable either so it was a pain getting some rest time

GermanyThe room smelled really bad, the walls were EXTREMLY thin and you could hear everything. They turned off the music at some point - thank goodness, because it was really bad and way too loud. It‘s a quite common issue that they overbook rooms and you have to sleep in a shared room even if you booked a private room. Or that there is no space for you at all. In our case we got a private room which was IN a shared room. Just separated by some glass. Luckily the room was still dirty at check-in time and we got another one. The room consisted of a bed and that’s it. There was an AC but it randomly turned off in the middle of the night and smelled awful. Shared bathrooms were okay.
It was super cheap and it was easy to meet other people. The staff was quite friendly.
