How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGreat location next to the pier and a great sea view from the common area. Large capsules with dark curtains. Very clean.
No lockers for luggage. Not enough spaces to dry clothes and towels.

Verified reviewI stayed there for 10days in total and I couldn’t recommend the place more. It’s cheap, amazing sea view and it’s just by the pier, so as soon as you arrive you don’t have to worry about getting a taxi. Mattresses are the most comfortable I’ve ever had in a hotel and you get a private pod. On top of that, it’s not a party hostel, so every night I slept very well, without anyone interrupting me. It’s very clean, during the day there is always someone cleaning the place. The staff is really nice as well. I recommended the place to my friends who stayed in a different hostel and they were all glad that they swaped. I’m coming back to Koh Tao in two weeks and I’m sure I’ll stay in the same place.
Literally nothing, best hostel I’ve ever stayed at by far

Verified reviewThe best thing about the hostel is the location - right by the sea - 5 mins walk and you could be in a beautiful spot where is a swing. Also Rajar at the reception was amazing. Helped me with anything I needed like arranging private taxi bike, booking snorkeling etc he was chilled an fun and that made the stay so great! P.s comfortable beds too!

Verified reviewThe beds are really comfy the location is really close to the pier, there's a lot of restaurants and shops nearby.
Not enough showers, there's a rooftop bar on top which is really noisy, the blanket was too small.

Verified reviewStaying at Scuba Square Hostel is a ‘no-brainer’. Best location, literally on the beach, housing a stunning sea-breeze from the common area seats and beanbags, but above all - the best vibes. Priceless. The staff here are abundant in kindness and chill. They will go above and beyond to accommodate any specified need or additional request. Rajar in particular is found to say ‘no problem, brother’ in the most warm way to any request little or large, and for me he epitomises the overall welcome found at Scuba Square Hostel. I found the fellow travellers here to be mainly divers and free spirits, very respectful and not a crowd who are up loud and partying. As a solo female traveller I felt not only safe but cosy and ‘at home’ amongst a tribe. On another practical level, the hostel is less than 100m from the pier which, on an island where there are few and very expensive taxis, will save you precious Baht on transport to and from your accommodation!!
I chose an air conditioned dorm room. The room itself is adequate, basic but nice. The air conditioning was only permitted for use however between 7pm and 10pm. The peak heat of the day is between 1-5pm so this meant that daytime use of the dorm room was impossible, for relaxing. This is the only major flaw of my time here. Air conditioning restrictions are common on Koh Tao but never as extreme as this was.

Verified reviewGood location, nice guy on the check in
Even with aircon on the top row of beds was really hot to sleep in. The pillow had a scent of body odour. There was blood smeared above the men’s urinal

Verified reviewGreat location right beside the pier. Around many cafes, restaurants, dive centres, and even a rooftop bar right above. And it faces the sunset right on the beach! Very helpful and friendly staff - at the reception and housekeeping. Bunks are very spacious and comfortable. Building seems newly built, so everything is in good condition and the staff keep it very clean. Part of Scuba Club dive center, so it's really easy to organize dives which depart and return right at the hostel.
Aircon in the room is only on 7pm-11am, and it gets reallyyy hot in the day that it's not possible to rest in the room in the day. But the staff are very nice and will help switch it on for short hours if you ask nicely. WiFi doesn't reach inside the dorm if you're in the further end of the rooms.

Verified reviewLocation close to harbour. Bed comfy, curtains, enough sockets. Light switch at bed entry. The guy checking me in was very nice and professional.
-1 bad/slow wifi connection especially in room, had to use sim instead. -1 Aircon not on throughout the day -1 no shoe policy implementation doesn't make sense.. You will get your feet dirty in the hallways and go to bed like that. barefoot in the toilets? Disgusting. At least Provide slippers for the bathroom and/or inside. -1 no noise insulation, everything carries through the place. you will hear people walking and talking in the hallway. The cleaning stuff at 8 in the morning. Construction drilling at 9 am. Small stuff already needs repair. Missing shower knob. Broken door latch in the room.

Verified reviewLocation (close to pier, 7/11), pretty sunset views. The bathrooms were pretty clean.
The towels they “provide” for 250 baht deposit (they return 200) were dirty and smelly. The blankets were also not washed (we saw hair on them). There are no options to lock the rooms.
