How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.

Verified reviewExcellent room, spacious, well equipped and clean. Big comfortable bed, fridge, modern flatscreen TV with Netflix. Lots of space in common area, including big comfortable sofa. DIY breakfast in morning plus use of the well equipped kitchen, plenty of bread, eggs, fruit and sausages to go round. Small but functional gym. Staff were professional and its easy to organise onwards travels to Luang Prabang in Laos here by bus or boat. Very comfortable for an extended stay, and very nice room for the price.
A little walk into the back streets to get to hostel, not the most convenient central location. Bit of a trek to nearest convenience store.

Verified reviewShaun was completely fantastic. He went above and beyond and even took me to try some Thai cheesecake and bread! He was so warm and welcoming and he made me feel so at home in the hostel. Nothing was too big an ask and he was more than happy to speak to the bus company for me to check the times. He was absolutely hilarious, too. The hostel was clean and had breakfast bits so you could cook your own which was great for me. It was quiet and calm. A great stay.

Verified reviewAmazing hostel with lots of facilities and great reception staff, Nda, Joy and others you guys were amazing! They were super attentive and helpful always to me and even helped with scooter rental like literally it was effortless! Love you guys 💜, will come back again if i ever come back to Chiang Rai.
Nothing really, everything was excellent! Only thing is the hostel was too silent because of the off season maybe but apart from that everything great!

. The staff ( very weird behavior) : I arrived to the hotel at 6:00 in the morning it was a young men that check me in . I took an studio for myself and he told me that I have to wake up everyday at 6:30 in the morning to get my breakfast in the room as they leave the breakfast outside the room .(strange )i told him that I was on vacation and I will not wake up every day at 6:30!better no breakfast. One of the days they forgot the towels and they moved some of the accessories that leave on the room (they didn’t stole them but they just moved them )strange! And the last days when I was doing the check out the manager went to check the room (that it’s ok )but that took her 15 min as I don’t know what she was looking for . Very strange . They are doing renovations and I which I knew that the noise start early in the morning . Just you know if you pay by card you will be charge 3% extra!Strange! From my side I will not go back to that place

Verified reviewAs soon as I walked into this hostel, I extended my stay for another 5 days. MAINLY because of the staff. Super friendly, and always there to help with a smile. The hostel itself is also amazing and very homely. Has many places to hang out, a pool, pool table, cheap laundry I can do myself, and most importantly a kitchen to make your own food. Making my own egg after months of traveling was such a little pleasure.
I didn’t like that the common outside area near the pool was non smoking. I wish it had a small space For smokers so we don’t have to go all the way out.

Verified reviewExcellent. I stayed in an 8 bed dorm, and the room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast and snacks throughout the day are free, and you cook your own eggs, which is a novelty! The common area is nice to hang out in, and the pool is good to dip your feet in, but too small to swim in. The staff were lovely and really friendly.
