How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIncredible little place by the river. Big old fashioned dorm with futon beds and mosquito nets. Very relaxing by the river. Not crowded with party people. Perfect place for a solo traveler to get away from the heat and the noise.

Verified reviewThe hostel was very much a place where it feels like you live outdoors but also indoors at the same time. The beds had mosquito nets to keep the bastards out and the bed was comfortable enough.
The beds has no sheets or covers. The owner told me they wash the mattresses but he isn't doing a good job or doing it at all considering I came away from there with Scabies (itching). The shower is very small making it feel unpractical to clean yourself and the place comes with no handsoap for after using the toilet

Verified reviewGreat location and friendly man but hard to find without the internet.
Only one issue for me. The smell is very bad. It is beyond the guesthouse control. The garbage, sewage, decomposing plastics, dead animals etc makes for a very strong and permeating smell.

Verified reviewIt was so cute and perfect for what we needed at the time. Love the alley way to get there, and the birds and the little lizards, and the old hardwood and the nice host, such a nice guy i could just tell from how he kept saying "its so hot!" and being so kind.
Just wish i stayed longer. Also saw some komodo dragons there, oh woops, thats actually for the part i love about it.

Verified reviewExcellent location. Very friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful views of the river and bridge.
Fairly basic but at that price you can’t complain. Gets quite hot during the day.

Verified reviewThis is authentic experience by the river in a local neighborhood. Owner is very nice and easy. One night there was few few mosquitos, the other night a lot of mosquitos. Our 3 kids absolutely loved it there
This is not luxurious place but perfect for kids to have fun and feel at home. Thank you

Verified reviewThere was no breakfast. There was no soap – not even the little tablets. The man who runs the place forgot to leave a sheet for my bed and I had to ask and I was told they were hanging on the line and I could get them myself. I am sorry, but there was nothing I liked about this place.
Everything could’ve been better. Basic things like soap and water should not even be a question. The room was riddled with mosquitoes and the mosquito net was disgusting

Verified reviewI've been to Phiman a few times. There's a lot of charm to it, and always interesting people to meet. However... its getting dirtier and noisier each time. Honestly I barely slept last time I was there, it was so bad... and yeah the room was super smelly and the bathrooms dirty. It's not super cheap so I have to say its bad value for money.
dirty noisy, bad value for money.

Verified reviewMy room was right by the river and there's kitchen facility. Room is spacious enough!
Not well maintained, smells, many narrow alleyways to get there, a lot of bugs come into the room by the river even if there's a small gap in the window or anywhere in the bamboo hut. Definitely felt that the price is a bit more than what's offered. Pillows were like huge rocks!

Verified reviewThe location is really close to khan san street and the central area
A lot of mosquitoes! They have mosquito nets, but the moment you get out or accidentally touch the net out of sleep you get bitten. because of the proximity to the lake. Bangkok in general doesn’t have mosquitos. Also pretty difficult to find the place. It is located in the middle of a maze of alleys. I had to use google maps every time I came back to the hostel.

Verified reviewCheapest possible within walking distance of main temples and Kaosan road. Disorganised but very nice host. Make sure you know if you've paid and your dates because he'll tell you every night it's your last night.
Dirty, unmaintained, access via a labyrinth of alleyways (avoid doing it first time at night) + there's a Komodo dragon lizard + 10 million mosquitos who also live there in the water/hostel

Verified reviewNothing, as they don’t exist
I didn't like the fact that they don't exist and I was left on the streets in the middle of the night having nowhere to go in a city i had just landed on and didn't know anybody or anything. They kept my money and booking.com isn't doing anything about it.
