How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewSOTA Cappadocia is a small boutique hotel within easy walking distance to Urgup town centre. We had room 4 which is small, but impeccably presented and with a private balcony with beautiful views over Urgup. Nil, the owner, goes out of her way to make you feel welcome, introduce you to her hotel and the local area - she was more than happy to assist us with planning our day, as well as recommend some excellent restaurants. Her staff of three are terrific and the breakfasts are the best you will get in Turkey. We can’t recommend SOTA highly enough.
Dear Neil, Thank you so much for your wonderful rating and words. It was wonderful meeting with you and having beautiful conversations. Our best wishes to you, Nil

She did care of everything and providing information, explain history and also organizing our trips, like the Balloon ride , or other tours around the region. Everyone working in this amazing hotel were so nice and so caring and sincere it was the best experience! So it is for me highly recommended! Deserves all the great reviews

Verified reviewSOTA is returning home to a place you have never been before, and never want to leave. The hotel is for travellers looking for an authentic Kapadokya experience. Nil the owner is so incredibly passionate about each of her guests having the best time possible, and this alone makes it one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The breakfast is truly delicious and such a treat each morning with homemade jams and chutneys. The staff are attentive and thoughtful throughout the stay. The rooms are beautiful and I would say even better than the photos (if that’s even possible). The rooms are incredibly cosy and homely, the sheets were of very good quality. Really there is nothing that has been forgotten to make the stay special. Nil is the heart and souls of the hotel, and it shines through in every detail. Younus ensures everything runs smoothly and is on hand for anything, they make a wonderful team together, along with the breakfast staff and housekeeping. Thank you for your love with what you do, you have created a special place for visitors of Kapadokya to stay and be so welcomed.
I loved everything about SOTA

Verified reviewWhat a fabulous find! After searching heaps of options in the whole area I chose to stay in the smaller town of Ürgüp (smaller compared to Geromë). Then it was more research on where to stay! I chose SOTA because of reviews and images. And it lived up to all I read and saw! A beautiful place that was lovingly renovated by the very welcoming owner, Nil. The rooms and beds are very comfortable. And although cave rooms they also have natural light. It’s quiet, peaceful, yet walking distance to town. A beautiful room and terrace to sit anytime (24/7) and enjoy the views. A plentiful, varied, and fabulous breakfast is available, serving freshly made food including locally made spreads and honey. And thanks to Nil’s passion to ensure every guest is attended to, informed and helped in the best way possible, I was able to make the best use of my time there.
Nothing I didn’t like at all, this is more of a note to for those with walking issues, there is a short driveway/road with a an incline, and steps up to the reception, rooms, and breakfast/communal area.

Verified reviewSOTA is an exceptional hotel - beautifully designed rooms, fabulous food, great service and superb hospitality. The owner Nil and her team went out of their way to make our stay perfect, from suggesting itineraries and local restaurants to providing the best breakfasts we’ve ever had anywhere in the world! There was a delicious array of choices each morning, with many of the options having been home cooked or sourced locally. Nil has restored the original building beautifully, creating stunning cave rooms with tasteful interiors. Younus was on hand to help with anything we needed and SOTA is perfectly placed for exploring all that Cappadocia has to offer. A wonderful experience!
Dear Lindsey, thank you very much for your wonderful words and fantastic rating. It was our pleasure to have you at Sota, come again please ;) Big hugs, Nil & Yunus & Hibe & Gulfidan

Verified reviewBeautiful rooms (we were lucky enough to stay in 2 different rooms), very tastefully decorated and super comfortable. Great location. And, unbelievably delightful staff. Owner Nil was better than any travel agent and gave us a rundown on local history, geography, and went on each day to suggest a fantastic itinerary. Janas (her right hand man) is a gentle and never resting aide. He would always magically appear wherever anything needed lifting/moving. He definitely was telepathic: we only had to think about a cup of cay or coffee or ….anything, and he would quietly arrive with a cup of cay or coffee or whatever. Delicious breakfast, and teas/coffees/ cakes/etc essentially all day. Thank you.
Nothing at all

Verified reviewSOTA and Nil, Yunus, Binnaz and Hibe made our Cappadocia experience very memorable and beautiful. The property, our amazing room, the healthy food, and the bespoke itineraries we planned with Nil and that were arranged for us was really made possible by a real sense of pride of place. Urgup is a great and serene place to watch Cappadocia unveil its beauty and history and it really inspires one to discover.
That we only had 3 days to explore and go home to our warm SOTA family.

Verified reviewI love love love 💗 SOTA!!! Frankly when researching where to stay for my first time in Cappadocia, I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of options but found a write up of SOTA on a blog and it sounded perfect. Well, it exceeded even my highest expectations. Nil, the owner has put such thought, love and care into the construction and design of this hotel. I spent 5 nights in room 4, a gorgeously renovated and very cozy room with a stunning view of Urgup. Nil and her team Younis went above and beyond to make sure I felt cared for, with organic farm to table vegan 🌱 friendly breakfasts, snacks and teas, immaculately planned excursions and balloon rides. If there EVER was a passion project success story, THIS is it. Bravo 👏🏽 SOTA!

Verified reviewWe've been to Cappadocia several times and stayed in some lovely cave hotels/apartments, but Sota is a cut above. The pictures don't do it justice! Nil has lovingly restored an old home in a way that retained its authenticity while making it comfortable and modern, with sleek furniture and beautiful décor. Our suite was great - cozy and light filled, despite being a cave. We came with friends and especially loved the common areas where we could hang out after the kids went to bed. Breakfast was better than a restaurant and service was fantastic all around. Thank you Nil, Yunus, and the whole Sota team for a wonderful stay.

Verified reviewNil and her team really go above and beyond to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. Nil got in touch with me so she could be there to welcome us when we arrived. She sat down with us to help us understand the history of the hotel and Cappadocia and helped plan an itinerary. I haven't experienced this sort of service and hospitality anywhere else and this will set a high bar for every hotel I visit from now on! The hotel itself is beautifully restored and renovated. We stayed in a beautiful cave room with tasteful furniture and decor. It's based in Urgup, so lot less touristy than Goreme. Much quieter and peaceful but you'll need a car to get around. The breakfast was the best we had in Turkiye. The cooks are excellent. It's an exceptional spread, including cake! My husband and I loved our stay and highly recommended SOTA Cappadocia!
We visited in late summer, and the room still got warm overnight. As there is no AC, it would be nice to have a fan. The windows don't have a flyscreen, and there is little privacy with the windows open.

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay at SOTA at Urgup very much - exceeded our expectations! Very comfortable, peaceful and was an excellent convenient location to explore the many attractions in Cappadocia. The owner was indispensable in helping us come up with an excellent itinerary customised to our priorities. She also helped arranged for a private car and driver at reasonable rates. As a result we experienced the best of what Cappadocia has to offer. Very warm, welcoming and helpful management and staff that's only found in a small owner operated boutique operation. Breakfast each day is full of fresh delicious options with a gorgeous view on the terrace. We would recommend staying at SOTA Urgup to explore the sights of Cappadocia with a restful environment after a tiring day of activities, then followed by a couple of days in Goreme to experience the sights of the hot air balloons and hustle & bustle of night life in Goreme.
Like many hotel accommodation with great views, there is a little bit of an uphill climb to get to. But well worth the effort!

Verified reviewI Have been a hotel designer for 20 years and have a passion for boutique hotels. After seeing SOTA online, it stood out amongst a large list in Cappadocia. I have to say that after staying, I have rarely seen any property so fully offer both a perfectly curated design and atmosphere that also exceeds all service expectations. Every angle offers a beautiful view or authentic detail. The morning breakfast was a fresh, craveable assortment of local ingredients and food. A wide variety of a la minute omelettes added an additional level of hospitality and service hard to find in even the mot expensive of luxury boutique hotels. Homemade baked goods such as plumb cake and light cacao pastry were a daily joy and many ingredients were sourced from local house gardens. Hands down the best food of my trip. The service of the staff is remarkable, offering you anything you need at any time in passing and accommodating requests graciously. I can honestly say that they left no request over fulfilled in my week long stay. Nil the owner is an exemplar in hospitality, both offering detailed and well selected experiences that are tailored to your specific expectations of your time. She eliminates the hassle of sorting through tours and helps you navigate what villages you might like best and who offers the best drivers, food, ceramics, the list goes on. What makes it unique is that she offers the guidance of someone with impeccable taste who listens first to what you want from your trip before offering thoughts and options. She does not benefit from the service and only recommends she personally trusts. In summery, this is the best boutique hotel find that I have stayed with in over a decade. I had planned to stay two days and extended to seven for this property alone. I rarely write reviews on booking, but this one is well deserved! Thank you to Nil and her amazing team for making Cappadocia a truly unforgettable experience.

Verified reviewWe liked everything about SOTA. The hotel and each room are beautifully designed and thoughtful in every details. Location is perfect. However, what made our stay truly exceptional was the kindness of the hosts. Nil helped us arrange the perfect experience during our stay and gave us recommendations for areas of Cappadocia we would have not discovered otherwise. She even prepared a take-away breakfast for our early 4am flight back and sent some postcards for us - as we did not have the chance to send ourselves. Thank you for making our stay so memorable!
