Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomAlong similar lines to other reviews, you have to respect the walk, a moderate level of fitness is needed, but then you’re in a quiet part of town with the birds… The WiFi was patchy but never down for long.
Lovely property, I liked being able to sit outside and watch the birds and the capybara. Inside nothing is fancy but everything functions which helped keep the trip on budget. The beds are comfortable and the air conditioning cool. Tiuana (sorry if spelt wrong) was helpful for queries and organising transport.

United KingdomLack of relaxing chairs or hammock. Could do with a bird feeder hanging. Too close to main road for us and noisy at weekends at night.
Property convenient to Castara. Good bird interaction. Beds comfy. Hot and cold water plus air conditioning was a bonus.

United KingdomGreat little self-contained property. Motmots (x3) came every morning for their banana fix. Couple of local small stores that are very friendly and have some useful bits n bobs, else there's the bigger store by the main beach. We would happily return to Golden Apple.

United KingdomThe hill up and down to the village is a challenge for anyone who is slightly less mobile, so take this into account before booking, however, Bruce and Tiuana do rent cars so if you can afford it, Rent one. All in all, fantastic position on the edge of the oldest rainforest in the western world so what is there to complain about ?
Golden apple is perfect for a couple to stay in Castara. It has everything you need. The outdoor space is a bonus to sit and chill, listen to the birds that surround you and watch the world go by while drinking a rum or 2. Bruce and his family are marvellous, so helpful and kind. Make sure you have plenty of bananas to feed the mot mots and all the other tropical birds that wait for breakfast every morning. It's a joy to feed them, they will take it from your hand if you are patient enough.

Trinidad and TobagoFor me because the Cottage was private. In cases where you don't want to go to the beach and just stay in. A pool would have been excellent. Also, a little laundry Area would have been nice, because of my family and I long stayed.
We did not had breakfast at the property. The Location was just what we were looking for. Quiet neighborhood. The people in the village were friendly and very helpful. Mr. Bruce was always available and polite.

NetherlandsThe villa could use few improvements and preferrably a washing machine. Washing can be arranged but in highsight I prefer to have that facility myself as with the swimming and hot weather clothes get dirty fast. The villa is equiped for sleeping of 4 guests and including the sleeping couch in the living room up to 6, but only 3 chairs outside and 4 chairs inside. We stayed with 5 adults and had a few challenges.
A great compact but still roomy villa at walking distance from the sea. The villa is halfway up a hill so walking to the beach is a breeze, but walking back is a steep uphill workout. The airco is working very well in both sleeping rooms and very welcome. The lady of the house is friendly and takes good care of the guests. Every several days the villa gets a fresh up with clean sheets and new towels. Shuttle service and renting a car from the same host was possible and easy. The beach is very clean and the water is gentle and suited for anyone, no weird currents. Lifeguard available.

United StatesNot suitable for folks with physical drawbacks. Must climb a steep hill from the road to the building. Only parking is on the roadside. It is not near to the beach, as suggested. Must walk a hilly quarter mile in each direction going down to the beach and back up to the house. The utensils in the kitchen need upgrading. The bathroom is like the ones on a cruise ship, a round tube, so there is hardly space for movement. Inside the house not well protected from insects.
A reasonably good place for younger, physically abled folks. Place was clean and the hosts communicated well.

United KingdomThe living area is not airconditioned and there are bricks which have openings to the outside and no fly screens. Therefore you get a lot of annoying insects, the citronella coils in the property did not deter them. We had a lot of bites despite also using our own insect repellant. There were cobwebs- we decided not to use the broom to remove them as they might trap a few of the insects. Small TV is placed above the exit door where you strain your neck to see it and was set on some language that looked eastern european. You are charged in American dollars so they can use their own exchange rate to convert to local currency, therefore the cost is higher than it appears. Very steep hill to the beach and restaurants then a short but steep track and a lot of steps to the property. Dog in property across the road barked every night and usually for a lot of the night. Also occasional loud music from adjacent property and cars using the track. The property is definitely not soundproofed. There is no drive to park on, you park on the road. We booked a taxi from the accommodation owner - it was a truck and the driver did not load luggage although she did help get it into the property. She used her mobile phone while driving. We also booked car hire through the accommodation. The first day the car was in very poor condition, it was replaced the next day with a better car but not the one we'd asked for.
It was not expensive (but see dislikes for overcharging). The sheets were replaced mid stay. Air conditioning in the bedrooms was on when we arrived and we were allowed to move in a little early. There was a full size cooker if you wished to cook. Air conditioning in the bedrooms worked well. Beds were comfortable and there was adequate storage for clothes. Taxi booked through accommodation stops en route for you to acquire a few supplies. Wifi worked for the limited use we wished to make of it.
