How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIf you're lucky not to be located in the dorm bed near the door, because its extremely noisy both from the door and from the shower, if you complain to the staff they will go and ask the manager who will tell you that was the computer choosed the bed and if you want another bed you need to pay more even if the other bed is free... So good luck! This hostel used to be my favourite when i pay a visit to Chiayi but no more!
Very noisy the dorm bed near the door!

Verified reviewClose to train station to board the public bus to alishan, possible to reach with a wheeled luggage, some sections along a quieter road after all the turkey rice shops. Abit of walk to wenhua st night market but safe at night by walking along the main road. Comfortable bed with clean sheets. That my neighbours tolerated abit of coughing since I caught the flu before the day of arrival in taiwan (thank you) Thank you to the lady behind the desk, manning the counter during my stay. I do not remember her name but she is one of those that contributes to taiwan friendly culture, the reason why visitors keep coming back :)
Toilet is adequately clean for 1 night. Toilet cubicle has no hook. Ventilation in the room can be abit stuffy, 3 in a room of 4.

Verified reviewCentrally located, great to catch the bus to Alishan or reach the main railway station. Beds are comfy, everything is super futuristic.
Although the hostel claims to provide lugagge storage before their check-in time, please be warned that the doors are locked and no one will buzz you in before 3 PM. Happened to multiple guests who wished to leave their bags and visit Alishan in the morning. I was lucky that after standing in the heat for long, someone finally opened the door for me on the way out so I could get in, but the pre-checkin staff was extremely rude and told me to come back at 3, even though the lobby was empty.

Verified reviewThis is an incredibly modern, high tech place. It says cash only, but they do take cards. (Would be strange otherwise with all this technology everywhere). Everything is spotlessly clean. There is a coffee shop downstairs. (Seems expensive, but the coffee is BIG and good). I had this cool room with a bed upstairs, and it was very comfortable. I really liked that it was a washbasin in the room. The common bathrooms were clean and practical. The kitchen is fully equipped, spacious and clean. Nice common areas downstairs and in the kitchen....and tables and chairs outside on the 2nd floor terrace. Superb WiFi everywhere.
It was nothing I didn't like.

Verified reviewThe customer service could be better if the staff serve with a smile. The plants died from dehydration, shows the maintenance attitude of the business.

Verified reviewSuper nice location! Staff was very friendly and the rooms were so nice, big beds. Felt super safe, locked every door with a code so no one, not allowed, will get in. I loved this place!
Smell in the room was a bit weird.

Verified reviewThe location of the hostel is very convenient. It’s close to the train station, so you can get your early bus to Alishan. The room was clean and staff friendly. The included breakfast was a disappointment though. You only get 2 slices of white bread with bit of jam. No coffee/tea or any other food items. So don’t count on that for a full breakfast.

Verified reviewGood location (easy to find and close to lots of food options). Although it's a hostel, the fittings (beds and bathroom) feel very new and are super clean. Very secure: the front door, elevator, and rooms all require a passcode, which is issued when you check in (a unique passcode for each booking). The staff were helpful and pleasant, and very patient with my endless questions. They also saved me from my own stupidity by finding a phone charger that I could borrow. Automated self check-in and -out is on the right as you enter; there are multiple language options and you should be okay if you just follow the prompts. The hostel requires you to take off outdoor shoes before going upstairs. They provide reusable room slippers; I think they sanitize them between uses, but if that bothers you, remember to bring your own. Towels, toothbrushes, and earplugs (but not eye covers) are available for rental/purchase on the 5th floor. The 5th floor also has basic cooking facilities and a large fridge where you can leave food until 8 pm on the day you check out, and each bed has a small drawer with a lock (which I think you probably need to empty by 3 pm on the day you check out, though I didn't confirm this). You can leave suitcases, etc on the first floor until 8 pm the day you check out. The only real negative is the keypad for the room beeps every time sometimes enters, which I imagine could be annoying if you're a light sleeper and go to sleep early/wake up late. I didn't have any problems though.
