Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

JapanThis is not a complaint, but just for your information. I booked a single room. Its room layout was like a bunk bed and I felt a bit crumped. It may be tough if you have a big suitcase.
This inn is located in the heart of the old downtown, Taipei Main station is within a walking distance. The inn is accommodated in an old building, but completely renovated so that the stay was really comfortable. The interior is featured retrospective and the guests can enjoy the atmosphere of the old days in Taipei. It really met my taste. The rooms are so clean that the guests can stay comfortably. The owner is always attentive and super kind.

AustriaThe only suggestion for rendering the great experience even better would be to provide a bathroom carpet. Apart from that, nothing comes to mind.
We keep coming back (it's been, I think, the fifth time at Jian Shan), so all good. Affordable, nice staff, great location, comfortable rooms. Our homebase in Taipei!

United StatesMy friend & I booked last minute and they accommodated us with clear instructions on how to get there, where to park, and the location of the house is in the middle of one of the most beautiful village on the Alsace wine route, it's perfect! They were also very dog-friendly which was a nice bonus. Thank you for everything!

This is the hotel I prefer to stay at in Taipei -- this is the third time I've stayed here. The best parts about Jian Shan Hotel is its location, the general aesthetic, and how comfortable the rooms are. It's also cool that there is consistency in the staff.

United StatesNestled in a traditional district, this accommodation occupies a characterfully aged building that immediately transports you to another era. As my cousin aptly observed, it bears a striking resemblance to her mother's apartment from decades past – there's something wonderfully nostalgic about the whole experience. Let's be honest about the room size – it's compact. The space has been cleverly designed with an elevated bed to maximize every square inch, which works brilliantly for solo travelers. The interior finishing is exceptional, with every element thoughtfully chosen to evoke the charm of bygone days. Despite the building's age, the space is impeccably clean – a testament to the owner's dedication to maintaining high standards. The design captures that "good old days" atmosphere perfectly, creating an authentic vintage experience that feels genuine rather than contrived. Practical Considerations: there's no elevator, so you'll need to navigate narrow stairs with your luggage. The owner was clearly attentive to my booking detailsl, which suggests they're conscious of potential accessibility issues. If you're traveling with large suitcases or have mobility concerns, this might not be the ideal choice. The front desk is not 24 hours.

AustraliaKeep in mind some rooms are small (as you can see on the site) and also note the windows. There is no overnight reception, but the check in system is smooth (especially with pick up if arriving at night).
Cosy hotel run by a kind, well-organised small team. Paul and Chen, managers, and the excellent cleaner, are all onto it. They can arrange airport pick up, which is super convenient. I stayed in two different rooms - my room by the street was slightly noisy but it’s interesting to see the local life outside. The rooms at the back are quieter but some don’t have big windows - so depends on your priorities. Best of all this is not a chain! Come for local vibes. I got a great impression of Taipei from staying here, and the neighbourhood is fascinating.

PhilippinesI didn't mind carrying my luggage up the stairs to the 3rd floor but it might be a problem for some people. I don't think there was an elevator. The door does not have a deadbolt or chain lock from inside. As a lone female traveler I would've felt safer with one.
The room was perfectly sized for a solo traveler. It was clean and cozy. Toiletries were provided along with some tea bags and an electric kettle. I was on the 3rd floor but water pressure was good and the water temperature was consistent, unlike in the hotel I stayed at prior. The hotel is situated in a relatively quiet part of town but is walking distance from the Dadaocheng dock which was one of my favorite parts of the city. Dihua Old Street is also a stone's throw away. There's a bus station just around the corner.

United StatesThe only downside was that the room was teeny tiny. We did expect it so it wasn't a big deal at all, but if we were spending more time in the room, it wouldn't have been ideal.
Really cool place in a cool location. Everything we needed for our stay. Recommend.

The decor is super cute - they've really put thought into making the space feel special and stylish. Do note that it's up one flight of stairs, so keep that in mind if you have heavy luggage (though totally manageable). Check-in was a breeze with such friendly staff who went the extra mile by recommending some fantastic dinner spots nearby. Really appreciated that local insight! The room itself was very cute and cozy with a nice window that opens to let in fresh air and natural light. While the bathroom is definitely on the compact side, the shower pressure was excellent - always a pleasant surprise in budget accommodations! The bed is on the firmer side, which might not be everyone's preference, but I still found it comfortable and had no trouble sleeping well each night. Location-wise, it's perfect - centrally located and makes exploring the area super convenient. If you're looking for a budget-friendly option with charm and character, I'd highly recommend this place. It proves you don't have to spend a fortune to have a delightful stay with all the essentials done right. Perfect for travellers who prioritise location and charm over luxury amenities!
