How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

But front desk service can improve — they didn’t tell us about the rooftop lounge, we only found out on check-out day. Also, staff treated English-speaking guests better than us, which felt a bit unfair. Comfortable stay overall, but service needs to be more consistent

Verified reviewThe hotel is right across from Taichung Station, with a great view of the old and new station buildings. Very modern design, clean rooms, and stylish common areas – perfect for young travelers or backpackers. The setup is very simple (just two beds and a bathroom, no TV or extras), which makes it affordable and practical. I recommended it to my son and think younger guests will really enjoy the atmosphere. For myself, since I prefer a more comfortable room with a chair and TV, I probably wouldn’t stay again. But overall, it’s a great choice for budget travelers who like modern style and convenience.

Verified reviewThis was the cutest hostel I have ever stayed in. Dorm rooms are shared between 2 people and each room includes its own bathroom so it’s absolutely perfect if you are staying with a friend. Great common area and rooftop area that is open 24/7. We stumbled upon it when booking last minute so went in with no expectations, and I only wish we had known about it earlier as I would have happily stayed several nights. It was a wonderfully designed hostel and everything was clean.

Verified reviewEverything was perfect and better than expected from a hostel (compared to my previous experience in Taipei). Really fell in love with the design and thoughtfulness of all the facilities there. I would have stayed longer if I had the chance and will definitely try to stay here again in the future. Taichung itself is also a surprisingly lovely city, I could tell from the thoughtfulness of the hostel, and the books they shared in the space with its residents.
Nothing much; everything was better than expected. There are even clothing racks on the balcony on each floor for residents to hang their clothes dry. Extremely thoughtful. Luggage storage after check out seems very secure. I like that they worked with the local businesses to establish a friendly network for visitors.

Verified reviewRoom layouts and common spaces were well thought out to accommodate privacy with a clean and cosy interior design. The rooftop was lovely as well! Lots of space for all guests so it doesn't feel busy and crowded. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The place is opposite Taichung train station, close to bus stops, and there's a large ubike stand area just outside so it was super convenient to get around. It looks like another level of the building is being renovated for the new 'Ruder's Cafe' - I'm sure it will be just as beautiful when it opens.

Verified reviewThe place was very clean. There were a lot of common space where you could sit and relax while admiring the view of the city. The location was very convenient, especially for a person who constantly needs to travel between train stations like me. The bidet in the toilet is a huge plus!
I booked the 2-bed dorm, and the shared bathroom was between two bedrooms, which enables guests to clearly hear what the other was doing in the bathroom. I could not sleep until 1am because my roommate was very noisy in the bathroom late at night. Moreover, there was no hanger inside the bathroom, I had to hang my clothes outside the bathroom in a small "hall". But then then door looks straight to that small hall area. I would feel really uncomfortable if I was naked reaching out for my clothes at the same time my room mate opened the door.

Verified reviewFirst of all, the stuff in the hostel is super helpful, nice and lovely! We had an issue with our room and they changed it for a different one. They were very helpful with it. The shared facilities are cute, the style of the hostel is nice. It feels safe and generally nice.
We booked a standard room in the hostel. The first night was a nightmare as the ac didn’t work properly and there was literally no circulation of air in the room. The stuff is there to help until 22:00 after that you need to call the emergency number and pay additionally for help if needed, but we knew no one would change our room in the middle of the night. The next day we first got another room on the same floor, but the ac also didn’t work properly in that one, so ultimately we got a twin room (two single beds) with a working ac. As a couple, we would of course prefer to stay in a standard room we paid for, but it was impossible to sleep there, so we needed up going with the suggestion. So the staff was super helpful, but the place was not great. Definitely the worst stay in Taiwan we had. Additionally, now, knowing the city, we would definitely stay somewhere in the west side of the city - so if you don’t have to be next to the station, we would recommend to doublecheck if it’s worth staying in this hotel.
