I knew I'd opted for the economy windowless room, but I think in future I would pay more for a window room. Also it doesn't bother me but the bathroom had a bath with shower attachment. So if you prefer a standing shower then maybe not for you. Also, it's an older building and sound proofing isn't the greatest + the appliances and water system can be a bit noisy. But, honestly, that's part of its charm.

I loved Gawa Hotel. Tucked away in a small lane with the quaint Zhong'an Park around the corner. Easy access to Shuanglian and Zhongan Stations and loads of great food and coffee really close by. The staff were so lovely and even though I'd booked the economy room they upgraded me, saying I was too tall for it! Which was very kind. I was based here for 5 nights and it was a perfect place from which to explore all corners of the city. The rooms are (I think) a kind of older, Japanese style. It's basic but functional and impeccably clean + a heated Japanese toilet. And a total antidote to soulless modern identikit hotels. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

The place had its heyday a while ago, obviously, and it shows in the nooks and crannies. Bathroom was well cleaned everyday, with all the essentials supplied, but dark traces between the tiles showed that this room had withstood many a summer in humid climes. But this was only the visuals, there were no bad smells. The one issue was with the air in the elevator, though. Someone really needs to clean the elevator fan and the carpet in there. What with the present humidity, at times it felt like standing inside a well used sneaker. Yo, management, that really needs to be taken care of!

Had an indoor room without a window. The lack of the window didn't bother me. On the contrary, the room was wonderfully quiet. Hotel is on a narrow side street, so traffic is no bother. The room was nicely set up and clean. Staff took good care of the room and of front desk service 24 hrs, and occasional lack of English was no prob. Somehow, we got the message through. Air con could be adjusted individually and reacted fast, and no issues with musty smells. Obviously, management kept the air con in prime shape. Once on the right lane, the hotel was easy to find, with a large illuminated white signboard above the street.

There was a smell of mold in the room and you can see quite a lot of mold on the ceiling of the bathroom.

The location was good, close to a metro station and lots of places for food. Very quiet too. There's free coffee in the lobby too.

AC was blowing directly to the bed and couldn’t be set to a very low level.

Room was spacious and had two windows facing a quiet street. Staff were nice. We left our luggage before checking in and after checking out.

The bed mattress is a bit hard to sleep.

The lighing control box is totally useless. The room looks clean but old. I could not find closet for hanging things. I am not sure if the slippers are clean. I would prefer disposable slippers.

The neighborhood is safe and modern with shopping malls and Japanese restaurants. The location is 10min walk from Zhongshan MRT however there are many bus stations around which is very easy to travel between the attractions and the hotel. The room is correct and the bed is comfy. The staff are friendly, even though they don't speak English well, but they are very willing to help you out if needed.

The fan/AC and the refrigerator inside the room are quite noisy, we needed to use earplugs when sleep. But overall with this price everything is good.

Staff was real nice. So polite and explained stuff in details. The location of the hotel is great. 20 mins walk from 寧夏夜市 and 台北車站. Even closer to underground stations. It was very quiet and AC was strong enough. Although the hotel is quite old but can see renovations and development has been done to keep it feels and looks clean and comfortable.

This room was claustrophobic. Of course, you can't expect too much from such a cheap hotel in Taipei, but I honestly believe that guests should not be placed in the Economy Double Room - without window. It is a claustrophobic space. During the night, the only ventilation system emitted a smell of cigarette smoke. The room is old and run-down, with peeling wallpaper and even mold in some places. No maintenance seems to be carried out anymore. The bathroom is also in poor condition—although it was cleaned well, there was visible mold in certain spots. I do not recommend it.

Positive: the location, the helpfulness of the staff, and the clean bed.

Impeccable place to stay. We spent 3 nights at the begining of our trip, and 3 at the end. They helped us from begining to end in everything we needed! The staff is spotless. Rooms are great, bed super comfy, very clean and excellent location.
