How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewVery clean, well-thought and pretty place.
An allocated space for luggage would have been nice, but this is really quite minor!

Verified reviewFriendly owner couple, the lady spoke English quite well. Only stayed for one night but 4 bed mixed dorm room was adequate/seemed clean enough and had air conditioning. 1x toilet downstairs and 3x showers downstairs which seemed fairly clean. No AC in toilet/bathroom area so can get quite hot but they did have an electric fan there which helps once you get out of the shower/toilet cubicles. Upstairs there is 1 bathroom but there is a sign saying you cannot shower in there so can only use the 1x toilet on that floor (which I didn't). There is a small kitchen area on upstairs floor which I didn't use. Allows luggage storage in front of reception area (basically in the open common area, at your own risk), pre/post check-in/out. Location was about 10-15 mins walk from ferry terminal/town centre which was fine for me.
- Place seems to fully rely on mutual trust of guests. There's no locks on room doors and front main door also doesn't seem to get locked (there is locks on bathroom's/toilets so don't worry), and there are no individual guest lockers for valuables like all the other hostels I stayed at. I didn't really mind this as generally it's been really safe in Taiwan, and I left my valuables including expensive camera/lens in by backpack in the common area in this hostel when going out and it was fine. But it only takes one bad apple. Others may have an issue with this and take it into consideration. - No staff at front desk when I arrived just before 11am, there was another guest who looked like a local so I assumed he worked there and he pointed out to me check-in was at 3pm (I think owners wasn't there at the time as he seemed to go and look for someone?), so I just left my luggage in common front room area before heading out. Then later saw a message on booking.com app from owners asking me what time I will arrive. - Small common seating/social area at reception area/front of hostel only, which seemed mostly empty during my short stay there. If your looking for a social hostel to meet people as a solo traveller this may not be it, bearing in mind it is a relatively smaller island hostel with overall fewer guests (most seems like local tourists). - There is an AC unit in front common room but was not switch on when I was there and I couldn't find the remote, there is a ceiling fan though, but it can still feel quite warm in there. There is a water dispenser but it seems to only dispense lukewarm (even using cold tap) or hot water. - Price was approx. £16/night which was relatively the most expensive hostel I stayed whilst in Taiwan (hostels in other major cities were approx. £10-13/night.

Verified review- The room was clean. - Not too far from the main street and the jetty.
- No locker to store personal items. - The room was a little small. - The bathroom on the second floor couldn’t be used for shower. Also maybe not enough bathrooms to accommodate the number of people in the hostel.

Verified reviewGreat little hostel! Dorm room bed was nice and big, had great privacy curtains and nice AC. Owner spoke English and was super friendly. Make sure to bring cash from the mainland because the island does not accept foreign credit cards.
Make sure to rent a scooter before coming here. There is no scooter rental nearby, so you have a 15 minute walk back to Town.

Verified reviewOwners are really friendly and helpful. They had great recommendations in terms of activities, restaurants, sunset/sunrise spots, ... and they did everything they could to make us feel comfortable. The room is clean and the beds are comfortable. It's definitely a great place to stay in Liuqiu Island.
