Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe really did love this place and we would certainly recommend it to others, but there was an overriding impression that everything here was at the convenience of the staff and management and not the guests, which was the opposite to anywhere else we had stayed during out trip. New arrivals are briefed en masse, so they do not have to repeat themselves. Meal times are fixed at 0800 for breakfast and 2000 for dinner (bit too late, we felt) and there is no choice of food - you get what they serve you whether you like it or not (albeit they do ask you at the beginning for any food dislikes/allergies). There was no written information anywhere about any activities. If you asked them, they would tell you, but sometimes you were too late (eg. we missed walking across to the neighbouring island at low tide as we did not know we could). Although a candlelit dinner on the beach was advertised, they didn't mention anything about it until we asked them on the morning of our last day and were told it would probably be too windy. It wasn't and they did do it, but I wonder if they would have done it, had we not asked. The cottages are semi detached and there is no division between the terraces, so there was a bit of a lack of privacy. There is no electricity in the cottages during the day, which is fair enough on a tiny island (although there is always electricity and wifi at the main building) and one day there was no water either, so we couldn't flush the toilet. There is no snorkelling equipment (just fins, no masks - they said because of Covid).
Chapwani island is a very beautiful and quiet nature reserve, not far from Stone Town. In addition to the lovely clean beaches, you can walk through the forest and see dik dik (mini deer), big land crabs and hundreds of fruit bats. The large, sea water swimming pool is a nice alternative when the tide is out. It was a real treat being able to wake up and run straight out of the cottage and into the sea (tide was high at 0700 hrs when we were there). The food was generally good and they gave us a candlelit dinner on the beach on our last night, which was special. A memorable stay!

Portugalit was very hot and from 00h the air conditioning turns off. The air conditioning should be facing the bed for more freshness. Pity that the free boat to return to Stone Town leaves so early (10am).
Few accommodations on the island, lots of privacy. Very peacful. Our accommodation was great, with a private pool, deckchairs and a nice view of the sea. Possibility to rent a kayak (for free). The island is small you go around quickly, can do snorkling, see easily lots of bats, dik-dik (more difficult) and a few birds in the morning and at the end of the day. Welcoming and kind staff. Very good dinner, with starter, main course and dessert.

PortugalBreackfast and dinner are included in the stay. Food is good but portions are small. Beverage at diner is not included. You can't choose what you eat. Every night is a surprise and the same food for everybody. Unfortunately for me one night was masala fish and rather 🔥.
The island is paradisiac. Pure nature. You sleep hearing the birds. There are not many guests and all people enjoying nature and quietness. You get never tired of walking in the small forest watching the bates, the coconut crabs and the small anthilops. You can use for free two kayaks and go around the island. You can swim in the warm blue/green sea and during the low tide you can enjoy the salt water swimming pool with view to the see. Every morning you can go for free with the boat of the hotel to Stone Town stay there for 3 hours and return with the same boat. You can go to prison island from there for USD 15,00/person. Snorkling is very good from the beach during the low tide. A great variety of corals, coral fishes, and sea stars. Mr. Tito, the manager is very friendly and helpful.

AustriaWe absolutely fell in love with this island. The food was very good, the staff was amazing - so friendly and caring. They made us feel welcome and at home whenever we met them. Also we had the feeling that they took great care to keep the island clean of plastic and other stuff. You can do so many things - snorkeling, kayaking, doing yoga (at your own with the most beautiful view) reading (they have books & some games) swimming, hiking, watching animals like small antelopes, bats, sea life - the island changes like 3-4 times a day with the tides it never gets boring. We even had extended to enjoy the beauty of this island longer. It was our absolute highlight of our Sansibar trip.

United StatesFood is just average. Expected a little more. Had much better meals the rest of our time around Zanzibar.
We stayed in one of the tent villas. Really nice, more private. Great to be able to grab a mask and jump in a kayak and explore around the island. Beautiful island.
