How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe breakfast here was really good and filling , with lots of options served as a buffet, and the room had a working AC and hot shower
Despite contacting them beforehand and booking early, I WAS GIVEN A DIFFERENT ROOM from what I had originally booked due to overbooking—a problem I’ve also seen mentioned in other reviews. Their restaurant closes a bit early, which isn’t convenient if you’re arriving late and want dinner. The location is in a very crowded area, which may not be ideal if you’re looking for a quieter stay. The tv doesn’t work.

Verified reviewStayed here a couple days prior and had overall a positive experience so rebooked for a night, but there is nothing positive to say. Mistakes happen, but I have worked in hotels for years and have never seen it handled so horrendously. If there had been the slightest effort to fix the mistake then we would have understood. Paying for 3 beds for a group and being forced to stay in 1 is unacceptable in any situation.
When checking in, we were informed that they had overbooked the entire hotel and the three beds we booked had been given away (she said they had “forgotten to close bookings”). The woman on reception was said they would give us a room with only one bed at a discount, but initially still wanted to charge us more than we had booked the 3 beds for which is ridiculous as it was their mistake. She was extremely unhelpful, and kept repeating “what do you want to do about it?”, but not giving any actual solutions. Given that it was 10pm at night, and the area around the hotel was very unsafe for women alone we could not leave to find another hotel and so had no choice but to stay. Bizarrely when we did try and get a tuktuk to find food as the restaurant food was not suitable for vegetarians, the woman from reception asked the driver what address we wanted to go to. On top of everything else, this just felt like a weird intrusion of privacy, especially given that they also spoke about us in Swahili thinking we didn’t understand. We were initially told the wrong room number, and then the key did not work because the lock was broken. The room itself was fine, but dirty (only took pictures in the bathroom unfortunately) and did not have towels or water. The hot water and wifi did not work. When I asked for a pillow, blanket or sheets for the guests who had to sleep on the floor I was told no, but eventually a member of housekeeping brought pillows with no pillowcases. The man on night shift was again rude and unhelpful. When I told him the lock didn’t work, and showed him that the door could simply be pushed open from the outside he didn’t care, and told me repeatedly that it was okay and we should just not leave the room. It shouldn’t have to be explained to anyone that a room with no lock is unsafe, especially after we had already been harassed in the elevator by other male guests.

Verified reviewWe stayed here twice with a one day gap between. The first stay was fairly ok, the second was not. The ladies on reception when we checked in were lovely and helpful (although one did point at a sunburn and asked repeatedly “what is that?” in a disgusted voice which was a bit rude!). The room was clean and perfectly functional although I would agree with reviews saying the bathrooms are run down. For the price you can’t really complain.
When we checked out, the man on night shift (it was almost 5am) was rude and unhelpful. He tried to double charge us for the room, even though we had paid on arrival, and it took nearly 15 minutes to explain to him that we didn’t need to pay again, despite the fact that it was clearly recorded in the ledger at reception and the woman he rang on the phone (not sure who) also confirmed that we had paid. He called us mzungu instead of our names or even referring to the room number, spoke badly about us in front of us in Swahili thinking we didn’t understand and when we told him we were late (check out took 20 mins even though we just needed to hand back the key) he didn’t care. Overall if not for his behavior and the experience next time we stayed, this would have been a very positive review.

Verified reviewStaff was friendly and helpful. Easy to talk to with no problem.
The place is located in very bad location. Difficult for pick up and drop off from uber or bolt. The building is used for many different businesses which is very uncomfortable to be mixed with ordinary people who are there mainly for shopping and doing business. I had to block my door inside so that I can feel safe. It is very close to the market which means it is extremely busy. It very noisy and disruptive. The food was extremely horrible. Bad smell in the restaurant of old cooking oil created an unpleasant environment to dine in. Rooms are clean except the bathroom needs serious maintenance.

Verified reviewThe room was big & well decorated.
The location, in the middle of the market. There was an electric kettle but no cups for coffee or tea. There was a lady at the restaurant who was rude. The country is a touristic one, so they have to teach people that they have to give a warm welcome.

The condition of the bathroom, including the sink, pipes, and toilet, is unacceptable, and we are addressing these issues with our housekeeping and maintenance teams as a priority. The hotel surroundings were crazy, even at 2 in the morning there was an incredible noise outside. The water was only cold, the bathroom equipment was broken, the air conditioning did not work. The elevator only had a card that we did not receive, we had to keep asking someone to beep for us. We cancelled the 2nd night and went away from the city.

I was disappointed with my stay. The hotel looked different from the pictures. It's centrally located, which is convenient for exploring, but that's where the positives end. I booked a double room, but was informed after payment that it wasn't available. Instead, I was given a single room with a shared bathroom. The bathroom was unclean, and there was no way to drain water after showering, leaving the floor wet for hours. The room itself had poor air conditioning, and the bed was uncomfortable. There was no sheet on the mattress, just a white duvet and pillowcases.
