Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesPersonnel was loudly working and talking way past quiet hours, room wasn't clean (probably never used a vacuum cleaner) and the showers will need to be cleaned more regularly.
It's OK for a night with the basics (hot shower, kitchen). Had a TV in a very small private room (no window). Towels were provided. Location a cab ride away from downtown.

United StatesNo sign of the business outside. Mattresses of the "extra bed" hard like a rock. Some rooms have no windows.
Was clean, and close to the airport. I like the smell of the wood, since they probably were doing work. Outside it looks like an old building, but inside the smell was refreshing.

NorwayCongested. Could be a bit more clean, airy and ventilated in the bathrooms and toilet areas. Some of the setup inside the bath area were also fragile with not enough space to hang clothes or towels, which is important when you live in mixed crowded space. For same price we had stayed in an airbnb just 10min walk away with private room and bath. It was also small space but we never felt it small and the supplies were great too. Issue here basically stems from the density of inmates in the living space and poor interior design that just aimed at fitting more people somehow.
Location is good. Kitchen was equipped and sufficient bathrooms for the hostel inmates.

United StatesThe communications were not good. My flight was delayed by 4 hours. I was concerned about not being able to check in after midnight. Several texts and emails were sent. Finally the owner responded with an invoice, which i paid and main door code. The person that checked me in didn't recognize I had paid in advance. The door code given for the room did not work, so I had to leave the door ajar when going to bathroom, breakfast. bring eyeshade and earplugs.
Good location. Easy rideshare from airport

United StatesDrug addicts on property, security door propped open, half finished construction. We did not stay due to fear of not surviving. Property will not refund $1800 prepaid for the week. Absolutely unacceptable property. I didn't take pictures because we just needed to leave. I thank the cab driver who stayed with me and then helped us find SAFE accommodations!

United StatesPrice seems a little high for a run of the mill hostel, but otherwise you get a typical hostel experience and I have no complaints on that!

United StatesNothing about the experience was good. My card was declined while having funds, and I couldn't cancel the reservation while I tried. I am homeless now and can't access my funds because of fraud coming from Alaska Backpacker Hostel and my bank. Why is that?
Nothing about the experience was good.

Brazil2 blocks away, in front of the Chelsea Inn Hotel, there is a scary concentration of adicted people that was quite frightening. But didn't affect our stay for being 2 blocks away.
Clean, shared showers were very good, staff was very helpful and nice to us! When we first arrived there was a little misunderstanding in how to get in, but was solved with a phone call to Mojo.

United StatesThere is no HOT water in the middle shower. I had to put my clothes back on in order to switch to the first shower which did have hot water. The room was so cramped with 3 bunk beds inside. I had to shimmy in between them to get to my bed. Of course with all the available room inside the room used by the 3 bunk beds there was literally no room for any luggage. The trash can inside the room was already filled with trash before I arrived and the bed next to mine was slept in the night before and never changed.
Bed was comfortable and wifi worked well. Good location to the airport. Plenty of parking out front.

United StatesHalf way in construction, bare bones, has rooms setup like a work camp under renovation. Chinese Owners didn't see anything wrong with cramming 15+ accommodations into such a small half finished house the size of a trailer, needs to be 1/3 the price and closed till next year so thry can finish construction. Finishing the renovation would have prevented alot of guests from leaving or being dissatisfied. Check in is overly complicated, requires you to contact proproperty despite booking room, then no one is available to take payment till whenever the manager shows up or later than 2100. Overall makes running a hostel worse for people trying to find the place. Sinks are in middle of hallway for the bathrooms, the showers were half finished, no fixtures in rooms or bathrooms to put or hang clothes or towels. Alot of missing trim or just plain demolition in process. No AC or active ventilation between rooms besides floorboard heating elements. No Laundry, Keypad codes for rooms are 8 digit long and you need two for front and room doors, yet the building is so small and people are coming and going so much the doors are left open way to much. Lack of signs or anything to let guests know about anything. Plywood and 2x4 used in the dorms still off gasing wood treatment, and no ventilation means you need the windows open at night, but theirs no bug screens on the windows. Had some people straight up leave, had the cops come by on one day because one girl couldn't find the property, she was offered a stay by some community members in Anchorage to stay somewhere else because they didn't trust the place, yet the cops were called on them by neighbors. Overall never a dull moment at the property which is located in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood far from downtown or anything worth seeing. Alot interesting characters. I don't know why you'd open a hostel under construction.
1 minute from 3 route bus stop, other guests were OK, everything works if you just need a place to lay down and shower.

GermanyThe keyless entry did not work. I could not get into the property when I arrived until someone showed up and fixed it. After I got into my room, I had to get up to use the restroom. When I returned to the room, I was locked out because the keyless entry did not work. I did not know there is a host on the premises as there was no sign indicating that.

United StatesWhen I arrived to the site, there were two contractors who didn't seem to have a care in the world. I was then advised that I needed to contact the owner of the property, who had the codes to the doors. I then tried to contact the owner, who didn't answer and passed me onto his wife. Then I contacted the wife, who then said she was arriving in 5-10 minutes. She then took over 20 minutes to arrive. I did tell her about my arrival, and she seems surprised and didn't have the rooms available. I left and had to stay elsewhere.

United StatesI am writing to formally request a refund for my recent stay at your property due to several issues that made my experience very uncomfortable and unacceptable. During my stay, I encountered the following problems: • The property was consistently dirty, especially the kitchen and common areas, with trash frequently left out and unclean toilets with personal waste left in them. • My door code repeatedly failed to work, causing unnecessary frustration and inconvenience. • The rehabilitation work on the property was ongoing during my stay and continued late into the night, creating loud noise and disrupting rest. • The environment felt unorganized, and I had concerns about safety. The front door was often left unlocked, and I witnessed individuals being let in who were not guests of the hostel. These issues reflect a lack of basic cleanliness, safety, and hospitality that should be expected from any lodging facility. Due to these significant concerns, I believe a refund is warranted. Please let me know the next steps to process this refund. I appreciate your time and hope you will take this matter seriously.
