I stayed in room 410 and right outside of my room there was something doing a LOT of noise throughout the entire day, late night included. Every few minutes it would turn on and then off after a while - I believe it was the gas tubes or something similar. Luckily, I have fairly heavy sleep and could fall asleep even with that much noise, but I am not sure any person could. I am not sure if this is a normal occurrence, but it may be something for the hotel staff to check on as I believe it could hinder someone's sleep.

The staff was exceptional. Masuma was the one who welcomed me into the hotel and she was extremely helpful, letting me even check in earlier than expected - I had just arrived from a long bus trip from San Francisco, so I was able to rest a bit earlier thanks to her. The accommodations too were very comfortable, the bed was very soft and nice to sleep on and can easily fit two people. There was an electricity outlet nearby to charge phones and stuff. Despite the bathrooms being shared, they were very clean throughout the entire day and night too. They also provide you with a TV and a fridge to use. The interiors of the hotel are also very beautiful and ooze charm coming from its historical background. The entrance currently has a modern painting on the wall as well, adding to its beauty. All in all, the service plus the novelty were more than worth the price for my one-night stay.

I highly recommend the Amercan Hotel considering the price and the location. The area is really nice, with local breweries, restaurants and shops. The staff is very kind. We had our room before the check in time. It was at the 4th floor with a great city view. There was no hairdryer in the room but I just had to ask one at the reception. No worries with the shared bathrooms: they are very clean. Special thanks to Masuma : she is very kind and friendly !

My room was a little smelly at the beginning. There were no locks in the shower. I thought there were 24/7 receptionist but that was my misunderstanding.

Considering the location and the price, The American Hotel is of great value. The surrounding feels vibrant and safe. Room is spacious and pretty clean overall. The shared bathrooms are kept very clean as well. Staffs are friendly and always available to help out.

I stayed at the American Hotel twice in the past two months. Masuma and staff were extremely kind and helpful, the room was great and the place was very clean. The hotel is in a great area to wander round and explore, day and night.

Reception staff may not always be around but they give you a code to get through the front door and you are able to leave your keys at checkout if no one is there.

Great location with breweries, cafes, and restaurants nearby. There’s a night market selling $1 tacos in walking distance. Staff were friendly and the washrooms were clean. Although they are shared, I didn’t have to wait once for a shower stall.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The place was very clean and the bed comfortable. It was quiet at night. There is a communal bathroom for women, and I was usually the only person in there.

One of the men's toilets on the 2nd floor has transparent to the outside window. It would be great to blur it out or to have a curtains for privacy xD

It was fairly loud at night outside which we could hear from our room. Folx were out late partying and shouting and such that kept us up a bit.

We had a convenient stay and enjoyed the Little Tokyo area. The daily cleaning services were great and it was nice to know the spaces were taken care of nicely. It was great to have A/C and heater amenities as one day was super rainy and chilly.

Rather good hotel in the Arts District, there are a lot of cafes and bars nearby. Shared restrooms & bathrooms are clean. Thanks to Masuma for friendly help with the check-in!

It's about a 10 minute walk to the nearest Metro stop, but I knew that when booking

I wanted to stay here specifically because of it's history in US punk rock especially as the Al's Bar music venue was located on the ground floor. The hotel has had a makeover since those days and the rooms were much larger than I anticipated. Toilets and shower area kept very clean. Staff were all friendly.

I have stayed at this hotel many times and I am always satisfied with my experience. Masuma, the receptionist, was exceptionally kind and helpful during my stay. I will definitely choose to stay at this hotel again next time.

I didn’t expect anything fancy considering the low price of the hotel. So everything here met my expectation.

I like the location of the property. It’s 5 mins walk from Little Tokyo Metro station which is connected to Union Station where you can catch the FlyawayBus to/from LAX airport. The location is safe and has amazing restaurants in the neighborhood. I love japanese food and we were on the right place to enjoy authentic restaurants. The hotel has shared bathrooms and the room is enough for 2 people. It has mini fridge and small tv. We got 1 window which is the most important thing for me when renting a room. It’s next to night bar and restaurant, but it did not bother us much. On our 3rd night, there were bunch of guests that were so loud, shouting, and partying next to our room. I am glad that the hotel people managed to remove them before things get worse. Also you’ll meet homeless people around the area, but I think It’s normal around America. We did not experience anything bad, the neighborhood is pretty much safe for tourist and first time visitors of USA. Over all It’s worth the price consider you are in LA. Not a fancy hotel but more than enough to have a peaceful stay and it keep safe our belongings while we are away.
