Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesOur stay At the Craters Edge was phenomenal- it truly felt like we had a little jungle oasis to spend our time in. The host, Dave, was extremely attentive and yet was not intrusive at all. The banana bread he provided at check in was a big hit! The location was super convenient to get to Volcanoes National Park, just a couple miles down the road, and there were lots of cute shops and places to eat just a couple minutes away. Our stay was a highlight of our Hawaii trip.

United KingdomThis was our favourite stay of our whole trip. Chris and Eric have thought of every little detail you could possibly imagine. The rooms are decorated beautifully and they're equipped with everything you'd need and the hot tub is great after a long day hiking. It feels like such an oasis.

The property is beautiful and accommodations so nice- very Hawaiian feel. Special details all around and stunning gardens. The hosts were very accommodating and it was great to take a dip in the spa after a long day in Volcano Natl. Park. The bed was a dream and we loved the architecture. Everything is thoughtful in this stay from a prepped fridge, fresh fruit and lovely banana bread. Perfect!

NetherlandsAlthough the power was out when we arrived our stay was great. Eric prided everything that was needed for a romantic evening including dinner given that all the restaurants were closed as well. If we could give 6 stars for comfort in stead of five that would be more fitting. Great little hidden gem, lovely stay. Thanks!

United StatesIt's very quiet and comfortable here. Overall it was amazing. The homemade banana bread and fruit were delicious. It's also close to the volcano. The water was a little cloudy because of the volcano, but it didn't bother me. It's a great experience to come here.

United StatesThat we didn’t book for a longer stay. Really. Nothing not to like.
Extraordinary hosts have created a breathtaking oasis in the cloud forest. We loved hearing the birds at night and in the morning, the crickets softlly chirping, and being surrounded by nothing but greenery. Did we love the hot tub? Yup. And the numerous small snacks, jet bath, and spaciousness of the room? Of course. But perhaps the best of all was the warmth, knowledge, and attention to detail of our two wonderful hosts, Eric and Christopher. The nearly two hour kaffeeklatsch at the end of our visit capped a wonderful, memorable stay.

United StatesNothing! We loved everything. In the future, if there's an oat milk creamer for coffee included in the room, my life will be complete. :)
We loved everything about this place. It felt like a little secluded retreat yet close to VNP and not that far from Hilo and other surrounding attractions/towns. Chris/Eric were wonderful hosts - and just a text a way. We loved the fruit platter, banana bread, and snacks available in the room for when we are too lazy to go out and find food. The amazing outdoor hot tub and in room jacuzzi when are legs are on fire from all those hikes. There's just so many wonderful things about this place and the list just goes on! This has got to be the most relaxing place that we have every stayed at. I wish we can just stay here forever! Staying just 3 nights was definitely not enough! For sure when we are back on Big Island again, we will only be staying here!

ChinaNothing, all great
Lovely, warm and detailed ,both room and holders. With cute handwriting our name on the door. Bed is comfortable, warm temperature from fireplace, heated blanket and heated floor in winter. Also surprised with the delicious homemade bread. Plenty of snacks, drinks and fruits. Ground coffee was great as well. But above all the grateful that Eric offer great help driving us to the airport under the condition that when we are desperate-no rental car and no Uber answering on 6am. Definitely will come again next time.

United KingdomAt the Crater’s Edge is absolutely gorgeous - so beautifully decorated, whilst simultaneously feeling comfortable and homey. Eric and Chris provided everything we could ever think to need (including some delicious banana bread). The room was cleaned to perfection and the amenities were fantastic. It was also a lovely change from the resort style accommodation we had been in before - this was much more relaxing and away from the hustle and bustle. Eric and Chris were great with their communication and gave us loads of recommendations for everywhere we were travelling on Big Island. We love them! The property is super close to Volcano itself, which is exceptionally easy to get around, and the entrance to the National Park is a stone’s throw away from the property. We did a fantastic e-bike tour and some hiking in the couple of days we were there. It was one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. I really wished we booked more time!

Hosts Eric and Chris were warm and welcoming, and provided great recommendations for local hikes and restaurants. The assortment of treats, snacks, drinks, and special touches in our room were so appreciated. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. United StatesNothing, Everything met or exceeded our expectations.
The owners were outstanding! Eric and Chris took several calls from us with many questions. They were able to help us plan our activities at Volcano National Park. The lodge was impeccably clean, simple snacks and fruit were provided and most home furnishings were available. The location is only a few miles from the park and about a mile from the town of Volcano, While it is close to these locations and others, there is still a remoteness about it. It truly exceeded our expectations and would highly recommend At The Crater's Edge to anyone! It was truly our pleasure meeting you both. Regards, Jonal and Michelle
