How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

An elevator would have been nice.

We own only 2 condos in the building and it doesn't have an elevator as mentioned in the advertisement. However, we have multiple units in town and a few of them have no stairs. We hope to host you again sometime in the future in one of our ground floor units with no stairs.:)

The exterior is very run down and the stairs and walkways are dirty.

As we would love to offer breakfast to our guests, it is not currently something that we advertise but are looking into it in the future. However, we do have a fully stocked coffee bar and the necessary appliances for guests who are looking to cook, or warm up a meal. The parking stalls are small, bed very uncomfortable, table and chairs very uncomfortable , very hard to get into room when hands don't work well. Kept pulling down on wrong part to get key out. Should make it easier to get into rooms. Push numbers on lock on door would be much easier.

Verified reviewWe purchased and cooked our own breakfast, and all cooking supplies were provided. It was a great and peaceful place. Although, we did not walk to the beach as there was an overflow of water on the trail of which will clear up as the weather gets better. Overall, the place met our needs, and it was relaxing sitting on the balcony watching the deer. We hope to stay there again in the future.

However, we can say with complete certainty that we have a twin size bed in the living room which may be short for an extremely heightened person but usually is not uncomfortable for most people. However, we have a king sized bed in the living room for tall people. We hope to host you again sometime :)

No way anyone's walking to the beach it was over a mile walk. There was no trail, nothing marked, and just deer path. Condo poorly maintained.

It is worth mentioning here that you attempted to file a fraudulent chargeback to get a refund after your stay was completed. Regrettably, your review appears to be a retaliatory response, given that your refund requests were unsuccessful. Regarding the walking trail, it is indeed a short and convenient path that many of our guests use to access the beach. Nevertheless, it is temporarily closed, a fact that is clearly communicated through advertisements and a welcome note posted next to the apartment door. We take immense pride in the quality of our hospitality and the meticulous attention we devote to even the smallest details when preparing our apartments for each guest. Our commitment to cleanliness is upheld by a dedicated housekeeping team, with their work closely scrutinized by supervisors to rectify any minor issues. While most guests bring happiness to our doorstep upon arrival, a few give us a sigh of relief upon their check out. Unfortunately, your stay appears to have fallen into the latter category. With that in mind, we respectfully decline any opportunity to host you in our properties in the future. We genuinely wish you the best of luck with your future travels and hope that you find accommodations more aligned with your preferences.

We didn't realize you couldn't see the ocean from the room and had to walk a 1/4 mile to the beach.

Our condo is at the first line of the beach which means there is nothing between us and the beach. Hence, you can definitely hear and smell the ocean breeze but there are dunes which block the view of the ocean and most properties in Ocean Shores do not have a clear beach view due to the Dunes. The beach is a short walk and a drive to the beach takes less than 4 minutes. We hope to host you again sometime!

There was no bbq outside anywhere on the property, the front door light was out and it would be better if the bedroom had a TV

No power in living room...no lights, TV. Perhaps a blown fuse? Too late when we checked in to call and then have to wait for someone to come fix the problem.
We wish you have contacted us about the power issue - it was a simple GFCI outlet reset (only required you to push one red button on the outlet - no waiting for technician and we answer our phones until at least midnight - we would have gladly assisted you in troubleshooting this)
