We didn’t like anything, truly nothing. With the car and the price you pay, it was impossible to enjoy the island.

Scammer! Christine took the $500 deposit without any warning. She is definitely a fraudster. The car was falling apart and was nothing more than a wreck. Right before the trip begins, you're required to transfer a $500 deposit via PayPal. You’ll never see that money again! After returning the car to its location with the lock key, you receive a message claiming the deposit has been withheld because you supposedly drove routes you weren’t allowed to. This is a scheme she uses to keep the deposit. She then claims the car now needs to must be checked by a mechanic for damage assessment. If Christine had the chance, she would’ve tried to squeeze even more money out of us. Once you hold the contract in your hands, she informs you that you’re prohibited from driving on certain routes—which, by the way, include almost the entire island. She knows how run-down her cars are and that they’re incapable of handling most roads. :D The contract also states absurd penalties, like $300 if you return the car just 15 minutes late. 😁 Total scammer. Look for someone else to rent from, so you can actually enjoy the island and not be limited to 10% of it.

Aloha Selma, Thankyou for explaining the reason for losing your deposit for me. When deciding which campervan to reserve you could have have chosen a 4x4 vehicle. They are costly but are built to handle off-roading. Our campervans are well maintained and have a Fleet mechanic as per our Commercial Insurance. You are correct they are not built to handle 4x4 roads and we have them checked by our mechanic when an incident like this occurs. The 3 sections of road that our vehicles are not permitted to drive on is sent to you upon your booking. A quick google search on “ 4x4 roads on Maui where Rental cars are not allowed to drive” will also provide you with this. I greeted you in person when you checked in and went over The “rules of the road” and Your Rental Agreement. I took the time to do this as you mentioned you had not watched our “info video” that was sent to you. Which is meant to explain everything beforehand. You specifically asked me about this Road and I explained you couldn’t drive it. However you did so anyway. Roughly less than 3% of our guests break our 2 main rules: illegally camping and/or driving these 3 roads. Congratulations if you werent feeling special you should now. I am happy that you were able to visit the West side, The Road to Hana and made it to the top of Haleakala in your short trip, which were all roads you are allowed to drive, in our Campervans. Noting

Scammers!! They have a lot of their own rules, which you know only in front of the car not when you book it. They charged 500$ for deposit and they don’t wanna give it back. “0” tolerance policy, how they said. No scratches, no damages, no tickets but they decided to keep all amount of deposit. Bad looking, bad maintenance vehicles but it has everything for camping, yes. Highly not recommend for everyone!

    Property response:

Aloha Denis, I understand it is upsetting to lose your deposit. It is true that we have zero tolerance to illegal camping. This is a county law of which we must abide. This rule is mentioned - in our listing - in our welcome letter - in our information video - in the Rental Agreement you signed This information can also be found when you research camping in Hawaii. When our guests choose to not follow this rule it puts our business at risk of huge fines. It’s hard to take accountability for one’s actions. This is upsetting. When we met upon your checking out you mentioned you had a wonderful time and how beautiful our island was. You apologized for driving the vehicle on an unmaintained road. We expected this review from the way you responded upon learning that we were aware of your illegal camping. I hope you can remember the wonderful time you did have here. Mahalo Go Camp Maui

Vehicle described was not what I was expecting. It was a Honda Element and way smaller than the advertised campervan.

Campervan had bad/very weak electrical outlets and it wouldn't even charge the fan for the very hot nights. It also couldn't charge my phone, so I ended up having to stay at a hostel lobby to charge my phone before leaving for Hana. As a solo traveler, I was very nervous doing the drive and having no way to charge my phone was stressful!! Ended up having to stay in town that night since charging my phone took a while and missed a (paid) campsite reservation...came home only to find out the host kept my security deposit without any communication. After approaching her about it, she refused to give any leeway when it was due to her faulty campervan.

    Property response:

Aloha Yasmín, I know your upset with not receiving your deposit back. The main reason we take a deposit is so our guests don’t illegally camp. I understand you had campsite reservations for each night but you have to actually stay at the campsites or it is illegal. We let our guests know that campsite reservations are required in our 1. Listing 2. Welcome letter 3. Self checkin video 4. Rental Agreement I also met you in person to collect your deposit and explained this to as well. When you break that rule, you knew the consequences. Leaving a bad review is your way to show your upset instead of being accountable for your actions.

Christines help is great. Also regarding tips about what to see and do. The car has all the facilities you need. I travelled alone and then you don't save too much money. But when travelling with 2 or more carcamping is a way to make your stay much more affordable.

I didn't like to have to arrange all campsites in advance. I would have wanted more freedom, but seeing the limited number of campgrounds there is no other way. Do this a bit longer in advace! And don't forget the additional insurances. They cost me $ 170 for 6 days, so really expensive.

    Property response:

Maui is one of the top vacation destinations, it is expensive here. Campervan camping is your best budget friendly choice when coming to the island. It is very popular so yes campsites need to booked in advance especially during high season. We are an island but have 15 campsites to choose from.

    Thoughtfully selected equipment

Pricing: contract said 100$/night whereas we paid 183$/night. Insurance: renter informed me only 6 days in advance that I have to provide collision damage and liability insurance which is an extra 30$/night No information about camp sites provided: with the thin blanket only sea level campings are possible and there are only few and for foreigners difficult to book and find.

    Property response:

Aloha Andreas, You booked through Booking.com and paid the price listed. Your nightly fee was $134/night, with taxes and cleaning fees. This is normal. You’re welcome letter sent to you immediately after booking had all your campsites listed with contact info. For easy booking as well as information notifying you that as an International guest you are required to purchase your auto insurance as It’s not accepted here in the United States. Unfortunately you failed to read your Welcome letter until right before your trip, which I understand can be stressful. I hope enjoying Maui on a budget was in the end a great experience for you and overshadows the little things…… Mahalo

It was nothing like staying a tent - the mattress was comfortable, pillows were provided and even hot nights were bearable with a little fan. My husband who is 6.3 was able to stretch fully. I was a little worried about the storage space, but there was enough room for a massive suitcase, 2 large and 1 medium backpacks and all different bits and pieces. Cooking equipment was excellent as we were able to cook dinner each night and start each day with a cook of coffee (French press provided). Sleeping in the car allowed us easy travels around the island, we checked out all camping spots (Hosmer grove was our fave). As Maui is ridiculously expensive, we saved so much money. The car was very reliable and took us through Road to Hana and extremely winding roads of Haleakala. Christine was a wonderful host and remained responsive throughout the entire stay.

The pick up/drop off point wasn’t very convenient - we had to take a $25 there and back Uber, but it was definitely doable.
