How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

The bathroom door was a little odd. Glass with curtain. Wrote it off as a designer kink. Didn't slow us down any. Also there was no through sheet on the bed. Again odd but ok. The thread count was nice.
The style and location were very nice.

I prefer rooms that are a little bit more cozy (it is very modern).
Great and safe location and nice breakfast (very good value for money - they have a special offer for 10 dollars pr. person). Air condition and cleaning was perfect, and it was very quiet in spite of the centric location. Really good beds!

We really enjoyed our stay at Lyle. The location is excellent — nestled in a quiet, charming residential neighborhood, yet still very close to all the main attractions and easy to get around. Our room was beautifully designed, comfortable, and well-equipped with high-quality amenities. The overall atmosphere of the hotel is calm and elegant. While the staff was polite and professional, the service felt somewhat impersonal and could have been warmer. That said, Lyle is a great choice for those looking for a peaceful, stylish base in D.C.

There was a strange chemical smell in the room and the whole section of the first floor where the room was. We stayed only one night, but if more it would bother me.
Beautiful cozy room, good linen and really great neighborhood with lots of restaurants and beautiful architecture. Phillips museum and Anderson house are really close.

We enjoyed everything
We have been on a 22 day vacation on the northeast coast. I will say that our stay at the Lyle was one of our favorites! The hotel is impeccably clean, the rooms are well designed, the staff is super friendly! The made-to-order breakfast was fantastic. Marjory at the front desk was such a joy! She was helpful and always had a friendly smile! Thanks Marjory!! We will definitely return!

Everything was nice
Second time here. Rooms are nice. Bed is amazing. It has a 50ish decor which is cool. Very close to Dupont circle and the city sights

The phones. If you need to call an international number, you’re not going to have any luck here. The staff were attentive, but it seems it’s a hardware problem.
Excellent staff, facilities and rooms are top notch. Location is perfect for restaurants & metrorail.

Not much! We had a large corner room, but there was no decent mirror. More closed storage (e.g. dresser) would be nice.
Second time staying at The Lyle and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Gorgeous boutique hotel located in a prime (yet quiet) part of DC. Comfortable, impeccably clean, great restaurant, not touristy. Love it.

It is in the most architecturally marvelous and hip neighborhood of DuPont Circle. It is a gorgeous 2 mile walk to the mall attractions with excellent subway connections, but the location is not in the immediate proximity of DC’s great museums (except of course the Phillips Collection which is in this section).
It is absolutely clean and spotless, and I say this with most of the furniture upholstered in white.

Cleaners do not speak English, so if you have request for your room, they only take the tip, and not delivery the service. Make sure you put "Do not disturb" card out to avoid early morning knocking on the doors.
Nice hotel located in a very nice neighbourhood, staff are all very helpful and polite. This is our second time staying here, and every time we come to DC, this will be the place to stay.
