How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe apartment is very clean and in an A+ location. We could walk to the center of town. There are lots of lovely details in the room. The host really cares. We will come back again for sure. We found that it was a remarkable value as well.

Verified reviewThis house had so much character and a beautiful garden. Our room was charming and cozy and we especially enjoyed having a glass of wine on the balcony overlooking the port and city. We appreciated the fresh fruit and flowers AND the chocolate! So thoughtful.

Verified reviewClementine's was a great location, very close to downtown Astoria. The room was spacious for three people and had a great view. The innkeeper had great suggestions on places to eat.
There were a lot of stairs to get up to the property and into our room.

Verified reviewFirst off I learned as I'm flying in to Oregon that they are not providing breakfast. The next 3 days I had absolutely no service to my room. The room was pretty & comfortable, but no can in to make the bed, clean the bathroom & give a concern about my stay. The place is for sale & apparently the owner doesn't want to be in this business anymore & for the money I was screwed.
The view of Columbia river & the comfort of the room
Gerald, thanks for the opportunity to have you as a guest at Clementine's Guest House. It appears your experience was not optimum. We strive to accommodate every guest with our 30 years of experience, I believe you expected a bed & breakfast experience. We are a guest house and serve guests a little differently. There is no breakfast or meal option. Guests expect a private and quiet stay with us,. I believe we provided that at a fair price. We have an innkeeper on premise 24/7 to respond to guests. We have not changed our business plan because we're 'for sale'. We are proud of our guest services and strive to honor that committment.

Verified reviewLocation
No one greeted us. Every communication was through text. Even though there is a picture of the steps, it does not give the pitch of the steps accuracy. The bottom steps are crumbling with a orange cone to detect unsafe conditions but the hand rail is inaccessible for holding on for safety. Sign states to use this entrance instead of the safer entrance from the side street, although the brick pathway is extremely slick. The carpeted stairs leading to rooms are dirty. Room 3 door was unlocked upon arrival. The door was misaligned and difficult to close and lock causing alot of noise in a quiet environment. My hat is off to the photographer who photographed the rooms. They made the bedroom and bathroom look spacious and it was not. We had more roomm to move around on a cruise ship. The linens on the bed were so thin I could have read a novel through them. The only upholstered chair was tatered and torn. The shades were also disheveled and torn and I had to maneuver them carefully to get them up and down. The windows did not open. The paint on the bathroom door was cracked and peeling there was no place to place your clothes to change after showering, keeping in mind the bedroom was down the hall. The signs and website state both Guest House and Bed & Breakfast. They need to remove Bed & Breakfast from both sites Remove all old reviews from websites, very deceiving. It appears the B&B was great in its day but those days are gone. Hope the new owners renovate the property to made it habitable and safe.

Verified reviewWalking distance to shops/restaurants. Great views from small balcony. Charming Victorian built in 1880’s, beautifully appointed/decorated.
Everything was wonderful, the ONLY thing that would be better is to have the bathroom (which was private) attached to the room itself…it was down the Hall a bit. Turned out not to be a problem, though.

Verified reviewIdyllic stay in a beautiful setting. Slept well and enjoyed the peaceful passing of ships in the evening from a lovely alcove in the room. My most favorite place to stay, EVER!

Verified reviewLocation was great, easy walking distance to town.
The jacuzzi wasn't working and there was no shower curtain ... not a huge deal. The kitchen sink is very small and water jets out of the faucet. The futon couch isn't very comfortable.

Verified reviewIt was close to downtown and had a nice view
I hardly know where to begin. We only met the owner when we walked along the side of the house and she was in the yard with the dog. She told us to close the gate that said mean dog. This is NOT a Bed and Breakfast. It is a room only. Do NOT rent the #3 Dahila room. On booking.com it says private bath. It neglected to mention that it was down the hall. When I realized this and complained I was told take it up with booking.com. Also booking.com says breakfast served daily. Nope! This is no longer a real Bed and Breakfast. You are not allowed into the main house at all. It appears that once upon a time it was but no longer. The room is VERY tiny. The is no where to even set your luggage. The bed is lumpy and uncomfortable. The bathroom was also very tiny, less than 3 ft between the tub and the door. We were there for 3 nights and would not have stayed but there was an event in town and literally no where else available. This is not where you want to stay if you have any mobility issues. Very steep stairs just to get to the front door and then more stairs inside. The carpet in our room was stained and dirty. They never emptied the trash or even contacted us during our stay. Very poor hospitality

Verified reviewQuirky old fashioned charm
Not sure that breakfast not being offered anymore was well communicated beforehand. It was after all selected as ‘bed and breakfast’ accommodation.
