How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewProperty was in a great location. It was clean and had plenty of room
John and Patricia texted us the first night that our kids were being too noisy and we were all in bed. The second night they approached our cabin at 10 o’clock, very aggressively and we’re yelling and screaming to find out they were both intoxicated ended up scaring the kids to where they wanted to go home and to find out it was a house that was water but why would you approach a cabin rental? That way is beyond me?
Jacque: Your reservation was made for 2 adults and 3 kids. Now you indicate on a text you sent that there were 2 adults, an 18 year old and 3 kids? Isn't it unusual that both times you say were around 10pm. There were guests in other cabins who contacted me about the noise coming from Comanche. I was able to hear it, as well, from our location., on both nights, despite me making you aware of the complaints the night of your arrival. Our other guests at other properties, who were quite a ways from you, were wanting to enjoy the summer evening from their porches, but they were unable to, because of the noise again coming from Comanche. None of those other guests had young kids. We do have information in our paperwork about quiet hours. Your 2nd sentence makes absolutely no sense, and is untrue. I'm glad that you appreciated the cleanliness and location, but your lack of respect for other guests at other properties in the area, and lack of respect for our house rules, is disappointing.

Chetan, thanks for your input. We are unfortunately still waiting for internet for our forested location. Our phone provider is working on it, but hookup is difficult. We hope to have connection soon. Pat

Verified reviewThe house was comfortable and remote, perfect for an extended family side x side trip. Close enough to Custer for daily trips to town for gas, yet quiet and within minutes to the trails.. Ten adults ate and slept comfortably. Parking was available for two cars, three trucks & trailers as well as four side x sides. Excellent communication with hosts.
We appreciate your comments. Hope to see you again. Pat & John

Verified reviewThe property was in a good location, surrounded by trees and about 10 minutes from Custer. Not having Wifi or cell phone reception was a positive, as it gave us some time to "unplug" and focus on spending time together.
Upon arrival, there were about 50 moths flying around the cabin. I single-handedly killed over 30 with a fly swatter the first night. This made many of our guests uncomfortable as moths were found under pillows, in the water tank of the coffee maker, etc. The lodge was not as clean and well maintained as we had hoped based on reviews. There was black mold growing around the bathtub and water leaking from the toilet bowl in the bathroom. In addition, the lodge had an unpleasant odor that kind of smelled like mildew or body odor. Our interactions with the hosts were disappointing. We had the feeling of being scrupulously watched and monitored during our stay, almost like having "helicopter hosts". Unfortunately we did not feel treated as valued guests, but rather with suspicion.
Chris: Your parents were the first to arrive; neither said anything to me about moths. I went through each room of Comanche with them so that they'd be familiar with the property. That time of year is "moth season" here in the Hills, and I doubt that you could count how many moths were flying around. The cabin was thoroughly gone through prior to your arrival. Perhaps when your guests were bringing in luggage and ice chests (there was a large group of guests) they failed to follow suggestions in the house rules about not leaving doors open so that critters don't come in? Reviews are done by our past guests, and we have no input on their comments. There is no black mold growing around either bathtub. Toilets sweat when there is a large number of people using a bathroom on warm days, especially since the water well is over 150' deep and that causes sweating. No guest has ever complained about any smell in Comanche, other than commenting on the good fresh pine smell of the wood. After departures, the cabin windows are open for extended periods to help remove any "human odors". Finally, you had no interactions with the hosts - I only met your parents and John was not around. We did not "watch or monitor" or interrupt you or your guests at any time during your stay. If the facilities and cleanliness are so disappointing, I don't understand why we have so many family groups that continue to rent it each season? Pat
