We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

immediately walked into the hotel lobby and it smelled incredible. the front desk person was incredibly nice and welcoming. the room was very big with two giant TVs and very nice lighting in the room. the bed was very comfortable and the shower was really nice and big with really impressive water pressure.

I was assured by you that Courtyard had accepted my booking, but they said that I did not have a reservation! They had no other rooms and neither did any hotel in the area due to Denver airports closure due to weather! I had no choice but to return to the airport and spend the nite there waiting for my morning flight!!

United StatesReservation was confirmed by Booking but the hotel didn't have any room available. It was late night and receptionist wasn't able to get me an alternative accomodation nor to find me a room in any other Marriott hotel. I had to call literally any hotel in the area at 2 am and luckily I was able to find a room in another place.
