This was the first time I ever stayed here.. I had seen the place before I'm familiar with the town but never stayed here.. I had a very long ride (motorcycle).. and I was really really disappointed that they closed the steakhouse and the lounge at 7:00 p.m.. it was in fact a Sunday.. but it was also Labor Day weekend.. that one caught me off guard. That bad.. that bed is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in in my entire life.. the room was nice and quaint and old style original.. I loved the room. As far as the room I only disappointment was that (I am a big coffee lover) there was no creamer for your coffee.. and the sugar packets that were on the table were rock hard like they had been there for at least a year. It did not crush my stay.. I love the trip.. I love the scenery.. the room BED was really great.

Not a place for anybody with mobility issues as rooms are up a steep/ narrow stairway. Mattress needs to be replaced and shower is in a claw foot bathtub that is slick.

The location, size and furnishings of the room, king bed, and the balcony/porch to sit, have a drink, and read in early mornings and evenings. Price was very reasonable and staff delightful! It was a wonderful place for us to stay during our NE Iowa kayaking/hiking excursion!

The fan on the air conditioner was so loud and squeally we couldn't use it... Opened the window. Tis the time of year... But Asian beetles all over the kitchen walls.

The location was perfect. Our room was large and comfortable.

Limited parking for guests near entrance, but is ok if you don’t have a lot of luggage to transport. Beds were comfy for 1 person, but for 2 people need newer mattresses so you don’t sink to middle of bed.

Very Clean, great location. Size of rooms. Refrigerator was great.

The bed was very hard, but if you like sleeping on plywood it would be perfect for you. The boxedler bugs were horrendous on the outside of the building, but that is somewhat expected in fall of Iowa.

It is a great location in the quiet historical district of McGregor. Very clean room and the food and bar service was exceptional. Very cool getting the Saloon experience. The value made it worth the stay.

Internet said it wasn’t available. 21 steps we bhad to go up but was finding ease with that.

The whole setup.the balcony to sit on read.we had privacy and cooked some meals there.met a real nice woman in the bar where we were all eating. People were really friendly.

Easy check in and check out. Antique feel, look and furniture. Met expectations and a definite bargain value for the area.

Our visit felt a little like stepping back in time. Every part of the hotel reflected it's 150 year history. Waking up in room #1 and stepping out onto the second floor deck to over look downtown McGreger, made me feel as if it was 1890.

This is beyond the control of Backwoods, but local road construction made a it a little harder to find the place. I’m sure once it’s done, it would be no problem

We had to leave before restaurant opened for breakfast, but dinner and drinks were really good. I put that it would be a romantic replace to stay, but I like old timey things like this place; I could see where maybe some people would not.

Stairs going up to the room. Pillows were somewhat flat. Construction on street had it closed off, so we had to drive around to get to casino and Prairie du Chien.

Very quiet, nice outside balcony with seating area, very cozy good space.

This was not a negative for me but be aware there are steps to climb to the second story rooms.

I didn’t appreciate that the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned. The shower had open and partially used soap and shampoo, along with random hairs. The coffee maker still had prehistoric coffee in it. But the sheets and towels were clean so I didn’t fuss. Some would definitely fuss.

I love the location and the aesthetic features of the rooms. It’s beautiful and convenient!

The toilet flushed odd and we learned it was best to use it sparingly. It wasn't the fault of business, but there was also some construction going on around the area and this ruined the experience a bit.

The location was absolutely fantastic. Right next to the downtown district with local shops and restaurants. The building was historic and made you feel like you were back in the old west, but with facilities.
