Regarding the check-in process, while a credit card is typically required, we made an exception in your case as a gesture of goodwill. However, we kindly ask all guests to respect our house rules, which are in place to ensure a comfortable and respectful environment for everyone. The lounge area is meant for all guests to sit and relax, and we received multiple complaints from other guests about you sleeping there for extended periods and not cleaning up after using the kitchen. Despite several polite requests from our manager, these behaviors continued, which is why the situation escalated. Please understand that we reserve the right to enforce our policies for the comfort and safety of all guests. As for cleanliness, our housekeeping team works hard throughout the day and night to maintain the property. Cockroaches are unfortunately a challenge in many older buildings in San Francisco, but we take all reports seriously and act promptly to resolve them. We acknowledge that San Francisco, like many major cities, faces urban challenges beyond our control. However, we always prioritize guest safety and do our best to provide affordable, secure lodging in a very expensive area. We appreciate your stay and wish you all the best in your future travels.

We’d like to clarify a few important details for future guests: Prior to your arrival, we clearly communicated that while we do our best to accommodate bed preferences, we cannot guarantee specific bunks. Beds are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, and unfortunately, at the time of your check-in, only top bunks were available. When you voiced concerns about cleanliness, we immediately offered to inspect the area together. However, you declined to show the issue to our staff. To ensure fairness, we also asked nearby guests to share their perspective, and several confirmed that the situation escalated over the unavailability of a bottom bunk—not a hygiene concern. Our cleaning team works hard throughout the day and evening to keep the rooms and shared spaces clean and safe. We take guest comfort seriously and are proud to provide affordable accommodation in one of the most expensive cities in the U.S., especially for budget travelers from around the world. Despite this, we made an exception and allowed you to stay—something we rarely do, but did out of goodwill. Our cleaning staff works diligently during the day, and we also have a dedicated night crew to maintain cleanliness in the common areas without disturbing our guests. While there may be occasional clutter due to shared spaces, especially in a budget-friendly hostel environment, our team responds promptly to any cleanliness issues reported. As an economical hostel in one of the most expensive cities in the U.S., we provide affordable accommodation for travelers from around the world. While some guests may stay longer due to extended travel plans, this does not compromise the safety or hospitality we offer. Our staff enforces house rules consistently and works hard to ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all.
