How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGaslamp Plaza Suites is right in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, so you're literally steps away from all the bars, restaurants, and nightlife. Being in the middle of the city does come with a bit of the usual city stuff—some noise, a little grunge—but the location is super convenient if you're looking to explore downtown. The hotel felt really safe, which I appreciated. There’s valet parking right out front, and the lobby doors lock at night—you use your room key to get in and to access the elevator, which was a nice security touch. The front desk staff was great—super friendly and helpful. I mentioned my room felt a little small, and they didn’t hesitate to upgrade me to a Junior Suite. It was awesome! Really spacious, with a comfy queen bed, a full living room, and even a kitchenette. The living room had a sofa that pulled out into a bed, which would be perfect for kids or extra guests. The kitchenette had a microwave, fridge, sink, and everything you’d need—plates, glasses, utensils, wine opener, sponge, dish soap, even a drying mat. Great setup if you're traveling with family or just want to save your leftovers. The bathroom had a big oval tub and those wall dispensers with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, plus hand soap and lotion by the sink. There was also a small dining table, chairs, and a desk, which made the room feel super livable. They also held our bags after checkout so we could wander around a bit longer without dragging our stuff around. Really appreciated that. Overall, the hotel was clean, had a unique vintage feel that made it stand out, and still offered all the modern essentials like a hair dryer and ironing board. You could stay somewhere more basic, but this place actually feels like a vacation. Highly recommend if you want something comfortable, memorable, and close to everything. TIP: Use the Hop On Hop Off Trolley to explore many of the local attractions.
There’s no on-site restaurant, and valet parking is on the pricier side—pretty typical for downtown hotels. It would’ve been nice if they offered a continental breakfast, though.

Verified reviewLocation close to our theater venue. Hotel itself had a lot of vintage charm.
I think all hotel rooms should come with a standard white-noise machine, or at least a fan, but that's just me.

Verified reviewA really interesting old-timey building with great rooms and services. The view from the roof deck was very nice and the staff was very attentive.
The bath could use an update, but it was fine.

Verified reviewRoom was clean. Requested a King size bed, but ended up with a Full size bed which was uncomfortably small for my wife and I. Didn't sleep well. Even though it was classified as a Suite, the room was small. You couldn't even open the bathroom door all the way because the Full size bed prevented the bathroom door from opening.....
Being charged $45 for parking. Wasn't called out during the reservation process, and wasn't called out at all during the booking process. Not cool.

The hotel is beautiful but outdated, doors jammed, the mini fridge smelled when activated, cabinets were a bit loose

Verified reviewYou are greeted by bad smells from the moment you enter the hotel until you reach the room. It is one of the worst hotels I have rented.

Verified reviewDid not have breakfast. There was a restaurant in the building in the ground floor but it was not clear how to access it. It's was unnecessary though given the amount of restaurants adjacent to the hotel. The staff was super friendly and helpful: front desk, valet, and housekeeping. They were super fast with all requests. The suite was large, classic, well appointed, clean, and comfortable. The windows and view were wonderful. The bathroom was roomy, with tiles and marble, and instant hot water. The a/c was quick to cool. No noise could be heard from other rooms.
It is near a busy street in the Gaslamp Quarter and therefore prone to street noise. This was understood prior to arrival and so it was not a bother.

Verified reviewI checked into the Gaslamp Plaza Suite hotel this afternoon, and the front desk gave me a free room upgrade—what a pleasant surprise! The room has a dedicated bathroom with separate wet and dry areas, a microwave, a small coffee maker, a sofa, a TV, a desk, and two large windows. Moreover, the tissues and towels are folded into beautiful shapes. There's free coffee on the top floor of the hotel, and they even gave me a $6 bus card, which allows unlimited rides on any bus until 11 p.m. The front desk staff was especially thoughtful and told me about the tourist routes. It's a great hotel! I'll stay here again next time I come.
It is better to provide an electric kettle and slipper if necessary.

Verified reviewNice architecture.
We requested an extra blanket, and received a blanket that smelled terrible. We returned it and asked for one that was not smelly. We never received the second blanket. For a 5-day, $3,500 stay I would expect an extra blanket that has no smell. I don't think I can recommend this place to others or return. We were there for ComicCon and felt that apart from one lay at the front desk the other front desk peeled had disdain for us. There was no smiles or customer appreciation. Again, for that piece tag I expected more, and can't recommend to others, because the blanket could be a one off, but the staffing is not.
