How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Not clean, they even left the used old coffee pots in the machine and never refilled the coffee pots. They charged $10.00 per day for room cleaning tip which never even bothered to clean anything. I would not recommend to stay at this place.

Verified reviewProperty is clean and felt safe. Friendly staff during check-in. Bed was comfortable - if a little noisy getting in & out of, as it sounds like sheet metal is part of the bed frame. Gusto's Italian Pizza & Pasta restaurant located next door. Short trip to anywhere in Seaside or Monterey.
*I believe the owners of Gateway Lodge also now own the old Thunderbird Motel next door and turned it into 1 motel, so I guess that's where I was staying.* Bathroom needs improvement or is still underway. The shower/tub had no faucet. Not problem for me, but for those who would like a nice warm bath, well. . . Shower head had low water pressure, but was usable. No real furniture, just 2 small metal shelves on both sides of the bed and piece of plywood that was rounded off, sanded, and screwed to the wall.

Verified reviewDesk clerk did not know what he was doing, This place has a late check in we came in 10 minutes early because they said we could check in. we got there and clerk said we would be charged a $40 fee for early check in. After much back and forth they gave us a room that had not been cleaned.Then they gave us another room. This room had a heavy smell of cooking spices. They have no lugage rack or drawers.No closet only pegs to hang your clothes. Pillows have seen better days! The door was warped it kept geting stuck.TV had poor reception. Are we complaining to much? Well we call them as we see them. We have no idea why this place has a 7 rating it should be more like 1. We will not be staying at this place ever again. We tryed going some place else but room had already been charged to our credit card. Other motels had been booked no vacancy, or beyond our budget.

Verified reviewthat once i complained to management 3 times about there was a problem with the flush on the toilet they changed rooms for me.
that they tried to say nothing wrong with the flush. 3 times they change the parts and 3 times didnt work ,the toilet when filled up then kept wanting flush and fill up again every 2 mins. then i moved rooms they then rechanged the parts back over and within 2 hours had a new person in there. didnt fix it .

Room was overall not that clean hairs all over the shower which felt a bit disgusting. Bed was really uncomfortable and not pleasant to sleep on. Blinds let in an insane amount of light at night making it hard to sleep. Parking lot was really tight and compact. Pictures online definitely a bit deceiving. Not worth the price.

It was dirty, didn’t seem to be cleaned up very well. Hair and dirt in the bath tub. Expected more for the price we paid. Parking was difficult everyone takes it once you leave and there wasn’t any space which is annoying.
