How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe design of the unit itself was great. Really liked it. Very comfortable.
1. The check-in was a disaster. The previous guest overstayed, so I had to wait hours and hours (after a transcontinental flight) to check-in. One of my worst experiences in decades of international travel. 2. The unit does not contain many items that are needed for a self-catering unit. 3. Communications are atrocious. When I encountered a problem at check-in, it was IMPOSSIBLE to get anyone on the phone to talk to.

Verified reviewPrime location. Modern, comfortable units. Friendly staff (almost never needed). Fully equipped kitchen. Windows that can be opened — never taken due granted these days :) In-unit washer and dryer.
Unit faces a construction site, so after 6am it starts getting very noisy. A couple of times, I've felt the building shake in the early morning — no earthquakes, luckily, just the work nearby. Unit does not have proper shutters/blinds, so it's impossible to block the sunlight.

Bathroom sink backed-up water flow rendering it a health concern. Kitchen sink also slow to drain properly. Requested assistance, but none provided. Blinds in bedroom and living room allowed nighttime security lights to shine in rooms. No parking pass provided as requested by renter despite several follow-up requests. Access difficult to building when using temporary underground parking. Elevator service was very slow as a result of one elevator out of service.

Large apartment - well appointed and nice welcome basket on arrival with paper towels, soap and snacks. Very clean. Nice big bathroom and closet. Front desk staff nice and helpful.
Enormous. Arrival is confusing and no parking out front for checkin. Name of building does not match name of hotel on booking.com. Long walk to apartment and apartment building is gigantic. No balcony because terrace sits below the pool.

Verified reviewGreat location, Metro station a few minutes walk away. Easy access to Dulles airport, Washington D.C. and Reston town centre. Short walk to local restaurants and Starbucks. About 15 minutes easy walk to small shopping centre with Whole Foods supermarket and a few other shops and restaurants. Plenty of space in apartment, good heating/cooling system, large shower and bathroom. We only wanted to be able to do breakfast and snacks but there was enough appliances to cook more.
A bit disappointed with the sofa bed. More like a fold down sofa than a bed. My daughter used it for 9 nights and found it quite uncomfortable by the end. In hindsight I think I should have gone for a 2 bed apartment, our idea of a sofa bed in U.K. might be different to U.S. It would have been good if there were some more instructions for the oven and microwave. Maybe also a map and notes on trash disposal.

Verified reviewWell I don't use the word exceptional lightly but this facility rises to that description. Fabulous on almost all counts. A couple of blocks from the subway in Reston which will take you to DC Smithsonian's in a half hour. The lounge area is extraordinary. The front desk is very helpful. But it should be understood that this offer is really for a fully furnished apartment including a complete kitchen, dinette, living room with couch and chair with big TV, spacious bedroom, bathroom with walk in shower stall. All is spotlessly clean (and they make clear that you are to leave it in that condition). When we booked, it was a great price for the apartment.
The biggest drawback- as said these are actually modern apartments and so it is not really set up as a hotel- no breakfast included, no small toiletries if you have forgotten to bring your own. We stayed five days but no offer for housekeeping to handle the room. Things like that. However those things PALE compared to what you will enjoy in return. The place is amazing!
