How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

That their Ac wasn’t working, no microwave inside the room only in the front office, broken drawer, door was hard to open, and had to open door and window for it to be cool inside, instead of having hot room.

No blow dryer, no microwave, no screen on windows, NO A/C IN UNIT, fan in bathroom broken, windows in bathroom were sealed shut, bedding smelled like sour milk, no elevator.

Verified reviewI love the location. San Francisco is my hometown. The bed was comfortable and clean.
There were no amenities in the room other than a fridge. A sign in the lobby said guests could use the coffee machine in the lobby at 6:00 a.m. I came down around 7:00 and had to knock on the window several times until finally a young man with "bed head" seemed bothered to let me in for hot water. The room had cheesy, scratched up furniture, and there were few outlets. I moved the desk chair over to the only available outlet for my devices and the back came off! The shower was gross and short of a new shower pan could use some grouting. There was no toilet paper holder. Someone stamped "love" on the wall - has no one noticed? I've always thought of Motel 6 as a good brand; I even worked there years ago. I will not go back.

The bathroom sink was clogged, there were rats in the ceiling soffet running around and fighting all night, and the beds were worn and terrible, with big dips in them.

Verified reviewThe location is right next to the beach. Rooms are big and comfy.
The lights in the main room and bathroom were not working. I didn’t pay much attention at first, but when I noticed that the toilet kept running after flushing, I started to worry about getting a good night’s sleep. I called the reception for assistance, and they informed me it was already late (9:30 PM) but assured me they would send someone to check it out. However, no one arrived. Fortunately, the toilet stopped running on its own, so everything turned out fine. Just a tip: be sure to check all the lights and facilities when you check in.

This place is run down, rusted and falling apart. The two rooms on the 3rd floor has molds everywhere. The staff was not accommodating and unprofessional.

Verified reviewArrived after a busy weekend. Room was fairly clean. Sink didn't drain properly, I almost overflowed it. The bed was very uncomfortable. Lumpy and pitched like a V in the center of the bed. All employees were excellent and professional. The view of the beach and the proximity to the beach and Golden Gate Park is top notch at this location and ample parking. I would stay again. Just don't expect much this isn't a 4 star hotel.

Loose, not friendly, dog running around. Broken furniture. Dark, old stairwells. Banging on our door at 4am (I presume they wanted next door as there was a lot of toing and froing going on through the night).

Tv only in one area really small. And the mattress were not comfortable. The bathroom also plugged and after calling the front desk 2 times, which they said they’d bring a plunger no one ever came. So with 2 adults and 2 children someone had to brave up and clear it ourselves.
