    Having to leave. At 10 am when our flight was midnight We paid for 19th so expect it to work better

    We booked this apartment for a 6-night stay with our 5-month-old baby, and unfortunately, it fell short of our expectations. The lack of air conditioning was our first concern, but things took a turn for the worse after the first night. While I was showering, a cockroach ran over my bare feet, causing me to run out in shock. My partner managed to remove it, but this incident left us uncomfortable, especially since we noticed a large crack under the front door where more insects could easily enter. Given the situation, we felt we couldn’t stay here safely with a small child and immediately booked another hotel. This last-minute arrangement was three times the cost of this apartment. Additionally, the lounge chair upholstery was noticeably dirty, adding to our disappointment. Booking.com kindly offered a partial credit (about 18%) for future stays, and suggested the landlord refund the remainder. However, the landlord refused, explaining that cockroaches are common in Hawaii due to the climate. They even claimed that an inspection showed no signs of cockroaches, which felt dismissive of our experience. I should add that after this incident, we stayed in three other accommodations on Maui for over a week and did not encounter a single cockroach in any of them. I’d also like to note that I’ve been using Booking.com for over 10 years and have never had to leave a paid accommodation early – until now
