How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

First, none of the channels on the televison had a signal. Had to watch movies and tv on my cell phone for 2 days. The remote control was broken also with dead batteries. Also, when I called the front desk no one would ever answer the phone. Tried calling numerous times from phone in the room. So i went and sat in the lobby and called the hotel front desk from my cell phone and the lady never would answer the phone. She just let in ring until I hung up.

Verified reviewI liked the location. It's close to several food places and gas stations. The grounds were well kept. The room was inviting. The bed was excellent!
There was no refrigerator in my room, and the shampoo and conditioner containers in the shower were empty. The front desk receptionist was not at the front desk when I arrived. I could hear someone in the room behind the front desk, but as there was no bell to alert them, I waited several minutes. Finally, I just yelled, "Hello?!" She popped her head around the corner and then apologetically and kindly assisted me. Later, I went back downstairs and saw another set of customers waiting at the empty front desk to check in.

Cleanliness could have been better. Sink in the room drained very slowly, and i could see hair clog. Had it been more than one night I would have changed rooms.

I didn’t like how you would be charged for tv service even though you don’t use it! The hot water was warm not hot! The ice machine don’t work! The restroom in the lobby isn’t public !

Verified reviewWe love the Hampton, book every trip we can, but this one was a little different, the staff was somewhat pleasant until checkout staffer was inattentive and rude, room was too cold without a way to regulate temperature had to keep turning it off to warm up, trash was left in room other then that room was very clean, hot water did not work. breakfast for the Hamptons was horrible we stayed for the value, next time I will pay extra and stay at another one.
Room Temp uncontrollable. no hot water, breakfast was a disappointment, staff can be more helpful and attentive.

Verified reviewCameron was awesome and helpful. Texting to communicate with the front desk was fabulous. The coffee was really good. Every single staff member was helpful, kind, and went out of their way to be friendly.
Hallways had no AC on our floor, the pool was out of order, the first room had a wet carpet from the AC, the second room they sent us to the tv didn't work.

The first room we were given had not been cleaned at all, dirty wet towels on the floor sodas and food all over and the bed and furniture were a mess. The next room we received had dirty pillows wads of hair all over the carpet and the drain cover in the shower was open.

What a disappointment our stay at Hampton Inn Memphis 8 June 2025. The first issue was that the pool wasn’t open when the booking details said it was open all year round. We could have stayed in much cheaper accommodation but specifically wanted a pool. I then found there was no refrigerator in our room. A major issue as my husband has temperature sensitive medication. Fortunately our travelling companions had a fridge in their room. The receptionist was unable or reluctant to help with either of these issues. She told me I booked the wrong room! It was quite obvious from the empty car park that other rooms were available. When I discovered the carpet in our room was wet I decided it was pointless to raise this as every other concern had been ignored. The following morning we were only able to get a cold shower. Then, as we were checking out I told the receptionist that someone had dropped items out of their luggage in the porch area. She did not look up just said OKay. Other issues include our thermostat not working and dirty corners in the bathroom. My friends room had a trip hazard (a ripped carpet) at the door and the noisiest air conditioner.

The a/c was broken. They couldn’t give us another room. The next day they said we could checkout without paying the second night (we stayed just one night). But they didn’t refund the second night. When I called to ask why, the manager hung up on me. Never got my refund despite about a dozen calls.
