Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

This place was perfect for how I like to travel (functional and comfy but not crazy luxury) and therefore there was nothing I didn't like. I'm pretty down-to-earth, some might even say fairly basic. I would just plan on bringing whatever home amenities help you feel the most comfy and don't assume cuz has all of it at the house. You know, bring your own towel or plan to buy one from Family Dollar a 7-minute walk away or whatever, for instance.
I loved Happy House 5430. It felt like crashing at your chill cousin's place. The beds were decent, they could lock sitting up which was a cool feature. They like to encourage socialization among guests, but the place really seems to cater to kinda older-than-young-20s professional-kinda types who just need a place to crash. Like, crazy party hostel this is not, but comfy and safe and welcoming and interesting this place certainly is. They also encourage guests to mingle, which I loved. We made some friends here! Recommend you be the type to follow the rules and be cool and you'll enjoy staying here.

The restroom did not have a paper towel/towel to drain the hands.
I liked how friendly the staff was, the security of the house and also the fact that there were other travellers around with whom I could share my plans.

The friendly host sets clear rules for quiet time, wiping and cleaning shared facilities (bathroom, kitchen), that make for a good experience. Five to ten minutes walk to train, bus stand right on block.

Staff was great and friendly. It's the best price for having free parking. Close to the train station to get downtown. It is a little remote, but feels safe enough. Don't expect a luxury place, but it's a great place to crash for the night.

It was more my fault - the heat doesn't reach the 3rd floor very well! Use the space heater!
The host is not only very accommodating and reasonable, he's also an intelligent interesting person to chat with! While this isn't Hyde Park by any stretch! The neighborhood is safe and right next to both north/south and east/west major bus routes and a block from the red line. A great value for the money!

Great place! I recommend it. The place is clean, and there’s a precedent set of being respectful, which in my two times staying there, everyone adheres to. Safety is a non-issue. Full kitchen, clean and nice single bathroom, with a quaint common space. Both the dormitory style room and the private rooms are comfortable - and I will recommend springing for the latter (who doesn’t enjoy privacy?) It’s a little south, but is adjacent to the great University of Chicago and Hyde Park, Jackson Park, and the Museum of Science and Industry, and less than a 5 minute walk to the red line, which will get you into the Loop in less than 20 minutes. For the price? WELL worth it. $100 in cash or preferred Zelle is required when you get there for the key and security deposit which they promptly return when you check out. Also, booking.com was the easiest way for me to book Happy Homes.”

there was only one shared bathroom so you had to time everything correctly but again no big deal.
The overall experience was amazing. the staff was super friendly, talkative, and informative. the place was super clean and the beds were comfy. I would have loved to have more outlets but regardless it didn't take away from my experience. I would definitely stay again

I loved the treatment received, they were very kind and even gave me something to eat. It is very quiet, everything in order and good sized rooms. The host is exceptional. There is transportation nearby and you can get to DownTown quickly, I would repeat without hesitation.
