The worst thing about Holiday Inn is the sounds. We heard pounding on doors, slamming of doors and people walking by while talking.
We have stayed here several times over the last 4 years while our son was in college and it has been fixed up quite a bit. Some of the great qualities were nice bed and pillows, convenience of location, friendly staff and great breakfast.

The pool was freezing. It’s literally the only reason we chose this hotel. My granddaughters were very disappointed.

The employee who was working the desk was outside smoking with a buddy. When I rang the bell he came in with his buddy and the buddy stood behind us and it was odd and uncomfortable.

We were on the 2nd floor. Apparently, there was a family above us with 5 young children who ran back and forth across their room. We were all extremely tired and we needed some much needed rest. I was forced to call the front desk to complain after 10pm. It did finally stop.
Hotel was hard to get to from the frontage road without going through a restaurant parking lot. Had to drive all the way around and enter from the back of the hotel. The breakfast was really good. Lots of variety. Very clean and kept the buffet well stocked.

Breakfast was late the first morning of our stay due to employees not showing up. The coffee was not good. The breakfast was a little below par even for a free breakfast. The second day breakfast was ready on time but again, it was your basic sub-par hotel free breakfast and the coffee being bad was not a "one off" situation. It was still bad - added water to dilute it a touch as it was VERY strong and VERY thick. Still wasn't good even after diluting it. Bathtub was a little worn, rusted, etc. It worked for a quick shower though. Lots of channels to watch on TV. Snack bar downstairs was nice to have and was very reasonably priced considering... 4 items for $6 was unexpectedly cheap. It was obvious this property was a bit worn. Because of Family Weekend at SHSU they inflated the prices for all the local hotels, so what we paid we didn't get our money's worth. At rack rate this would have been an affordable property and I would likely have less negative to say about it. But at the rate we paid, it was a little disappointing.
Location was perfect for visiting SHSU - the rooms were clean. There was an indoor pool and hot tub, we never used them but was nice to know they were indoors so not affected by the weather. They had snacks for incoming SHSU parents when we arrived which was nice.

Outside door broke. Not enough setting for breakfast. Room door obviously been broke into with a crow bar at some point….didn’t feel safe. Elevator smelled of weed.
