Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Everything was great. The Inn was very comfortable, and the owners generous and welcoming. We loved the little town and the proximity to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, which was one of the highlights of our trip to the big island.

United StatesDue to its layout from an older time some noise is possible. The breakfast area was just one small area in which you can eat with only one table and needed some attention to better lighting and housekeeping. Description of breakfast should be more clear and identified as continental (you assemble your own)
This is a hidden gem of an historic old hotel in a very quaint old town with nice updated and comfortable rooms, on the second floor up a very long staircase.

United StatesBeautifully decorated in an 'old hawaii' fashion and a large room. Situated in a quiet community just north of Hilo, so accessible to those areas without the hustle and bustle. Free street parking was readily available.

United StatesNothing, it was perfect. Possibly our favorite stay on the Island.
This is a super cute botique hotel with really elegant and local decor. I loved hearing the coqui frogs at night, and the view from our room looked out to lush rainforest. It was very peaceful and not too remote-- Hilo is only about a 20 minute drive down the Hawaii belt-- though you feel like you're in the middle of nature. The breakfast is simple but well thought out. Very close to 'Akaka Falls.

CanadaWould have really enjoyed 2 deck chairs and a small table on deck off our room. This doesn't take away from our lovely room.
There is a common kitchenette well supplied with continental breakfast items. Best thing was available coffee, made with fresh ground beans and pour-over pots not Keurig disposables.

United StatesQuirks like a slippery shower tub, a soap dispenser that would shoot soap across the room (learned quickly how to use it differently), a sink faucet that came apart sometimes (learned to lift the handle gingerly), some tiny spiders in the corners, a very loud door key card. These quirks also made it feel like staying in someone’s best guest room or casita as opposed to a hotel, which is actually why I liked it. Didn’t see the innkeepers during 3-night stay. Easy going and friendly, but more hands-off than a B&B. Without other inn guests, it might feel lonely (the town stores close early, but there are stray cats that hang out on the front porch at night).
Location in small town near Hilo but off the beaten path. Sound of frogs at night. Generous food in the shared fridge. Chance to interact with other inn guests in the communal space. Lush, pretty views out the windows. Beautiful waterfalls a few minutes’ drive away. Friendly post office down the street; friendly shop owners and coffee shop a few doors down.

United KingdomEverything was perfect except that we couldn't access our room when we arrived around 7pm as there was no key card in the box outside the room. The lack of phone coverage in the area made it impossible to call the owner but, fortunately, Ed's bakery was still open and the kind people their let us use their landline. We were able to access the lobby and WiFi and the owners came out quickly (within 15min) once we contacted them, so we were waiting less than an hour but after a long flight and no dinner it felt longer! They did apologise for the mistake (key was in room running the electrics) and offer a free Shave Ice from their place a few doors down but this was only open at times when we were out exploring. As we only had one key card and it was needed for the electrics we had to take care to leave the room door open when we went downstairs to the kitchen. Another place we stayed had a key pad lock on the door and I think this was a better arrangement.
This is a beautiful old building and the spacious room and deck were ideal for a few days. The breakfast items, including excellent coffee, provided in the kitchen were great and we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay and explore the North and East side of the island.

I was just looking for somewhere to stay close to my property in Laupahoehoe that I am working on and intend to build on in a couple of years. I just needed a shower and bed plus food close by and this property met all of my expectations. There is a good Pizza place close by with a Smooth / Acai bowl place right next door. Also don't forget Mister Ed's Bakery and Shave Ice up the street, very Iconic. The room is in a Historic old building that has been renovated very tastefully. Nice updated bathroom. Bed was a Queen size and very comfortable. I'd stay here again and probably will.

AustriaWe received the check-in information only after our arrival. There is no cell service near the hotel so we couldn’t reach the hosts. Fortunately the host was sitting in the store next to the hotel and helped us with the check-in procedure. It would be great to receive the check-in information a little bit sooner.

United StatesWe didn't get the check-in info via text/email on time but that was easily cleared up with a quick phone call. The room could have used a small coffee table or another side table.
The room was well appointed and the lanai out back over looking the garden was perfect. The communal kitchen had all that we needed for an easy breakfast and to heat up snacks. We will definitely stay here again when we visit our friend in town.

United StatesWe were exploring the area, and this was centrally located. At breakfast: Self serve pourover coffee that was delicious, toast, yoghurt, cream cheese and fruit. Slept very well, it was super quiet and peaceful and also everything was new and remodeled in the place. You are in a small, teeny town that clears out at 5. If you need more substance for breakfast head up the street for amazing food or a big bakery next door. Great botanical garden nearby. If you like creative, local places you will like this place like we did!

United StatesHonomu has NO restaurants. If you want to go to a restaurant, it's to Hilo about 11 miles away. The bakery next door offers tremendous baked goods and homemade jellies. We bought several. We did not make it to the general store just down the street.
Quaint. Not your run of the mill hotel. More like a B&B. Our room was very comfortable, clean, and had a deck! Slept like a baby! Would definitely stay here again.
