Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

This place needs a good cleaning inside and out. The stairways are dirty. The floor in my room did not look vacuumed. I felt like I was staying with everyone that stayed in there before…

But I had no idea that it was under renovations. So no pool, no breakfast, WiFi was so slow, room was old and dingy looking and not as clean as it could be. Smelled like construction and had to always ask for more towels, garbage to be taken out. Overall look of the place was sad and neglected.
The price was what made me book to begin with. Then it was stated that there was a pool and continental breakfast.

There is no breakfast as advertised. Poor cleanliness. Furniture is out of shape. Wifi is slow and unstable.

The woman at the counter was a pill and had zero interested in being helpful or cordial. She was the first and last interaction I had with staff at the hotel and just left a lasting negative impression of my entire experience staying there.

Changed room 3 times. 1st room window wouldn't close, 2nd room, phone didn't work, looked like room hadn't been cleaned, bed looked like used sheets and pillows, bathroom light didn't work.Had to get Kleenex from previous room. Rooms were substandard.
Breakfast was okay, location ok. Receptionist at least allowed us to change rooms.

Littered parking lot, dirty room floor, used soap in sink, grimy bathroom walls, questionable bed linen, stagnant odor in room. Place needs serious upkeep and cleaning services. I believe we were given a room where someone was renting due to the condition of the un-vacuumed floor and used hand soap, also there was a pair of work boots in the closet behind the safe box. We needed a place to crash out for a few hours and didn’t have high expectations. We brought our own sleeping bags, pillows and towels.
Roof over your head, bed and full bath. Hot water, not to rowdy, parkings lot have lights. Staff is kind and helpful. In a good location in proximity to city center. One of the cheaper places to stay for one night.

The hotel was run down. The phone in room did not work so i had to go down to front desk 2 times for information. The breakfast was the worst at any of paces we stayed at. Just coffee (no tea) along with some sandwich and granola bars on reception desk. I would not stay at a Howard Johnson again

It wasn't very clean. We stayed because they advertised a pool and spa and there wasn't. The hallway stairs were dirty. We ended our trip early and didn't stay the 2nd night.

The staff wasn't very friendly, the mirrors were dirty, along with the floors in our room and the air conditioning didn't work great. The free "breakfast" was juice boxes, green bananas and coffee so definitely not anything edible for my kids. I wouldn't stay here again.

Hallways smelled of urine, mattress cover and box spring covers were stained, pillows were also stained. Shower had moldy spots in corners.

When we checked into our original room, it was completely stripped. So we got an older room on the top floor. Seemed cleaned but anytime we turned on the fan or shower, it stunk like cigarette.
