How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

This person canceled after I collected his payment 60 days ahead. I have copies of bookings showing he had cancelled. Then a few days before his arrival. Booking ,com showed me with a double booking. I did the best I could to find him a booking. He booked unit 112 and stayed there. His review and rating of 3 was not of my unit. I feel this is very unfair of Booking.com to post this review when it was not my unit.

Verified reviewThe apartment was well equipped, generally clean and spacious. It was well located in a quiet area and close to the beach.
The air-conditioning was very noisy and ineffective. The weather was quite hot, and to make matters worse, the balcony door could not be opened to allow ventilation (this had been reported as an issue way back in May 23 in feedback). Also, the windows were difficult to open fully, or the opening mechanism was broken. We tried to contact the owner by phone and through booking.com messaging. The office also sent her an email. There was no response. We could not access or use the balcony. I generally do not leave negative feedback, but in view of no response from the owner and the fact that we paid close to USD 300 per night, this is not acceptable.
Aloha, Iam so sorry this happened. The day you left the message, I was flying from the east coast Back to Maui. From the time I left Florida till I was home on Maui was 27 hours. I called the front desk and they said you had checked out. They said you Hadn't told them until you were leaving. I had our handy man look at it immediately. The wheels had come off the runner. It is now being fixed. I am not sure who told you it was broken in May . I know it wasn't broken in May as I had back to back bookings in May with no complains. the house keeper's clean the condo & balcony after each guest. It was working then. I wish you would have gone to the office as soon as it happened, they could have got someone in to fix it. If you did tell the office was it on your 1st or second day? Verified reviewThis is an excellent location, the unit is spacious, and the furniture was comfortable. We especially liked the high quality of the appliances and the upgraded bathroom. The balcony was enjoyable to use. The owner was very responsive when we asked questions.
The unit does not have central air conditioning, although there is an air conditioner serving the living room/kitchen. The bedroom has an air handler that helped cool it off, but it is not an air conditioner and is very noisy. The lack of written instructions for the unit in the bedroom made it a challenge. Similarly, there were instructions for the TV remote for the cable, but the subscription had lapsed.

Verified reviewGreat location, large enough for a couple to live in, well appointed / furnished / equipped- every thing you may need was provided. Good internet speed. Handy to a variety of shops & restaurants. Outlook orientation was great for the sun & breeze. Balcony overlooked leafy courtyard & shade areas. Far enough back from the road to minimise traffic noise. Two minutes walk to the beach.

Verified reviewThe location was ideal walking distance to beach. It’s equipped with beach stuff. The grounds are well maintained they have a security guard.
I did not like that the condo was dusty and needed a deep cleaning. The back sliding door to the patio was a nightmare we couldn’t get it to open or shut with out making a big ruckus. The tea pot on the stove had tea in it from the guest before us.

The ladies in the office were not excessively friendly and helpful, some space for improvement.....too bad that baggage storage is not possible on the day of departure.....

Not enough power outlets in the unit. The air conditioning was not in the best position in both rooms and the one in the bedroom didn't cool at first but eventually got cool. Unit could use some modernization.
