The corridors are really old, so it may feel a little bit unsafe. We were at its very end, so we weren’t too much exposed to the noise.

My sister and I had a great one-week stay at the Cartwright Hotel. The hotel has a historic charm and the rooms were clean and tidy with all necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. It is in close proximity to attractions and public transportation, and within walking distance to many places. Having a 7-Eleven and Walgreens across the street was very convenient. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit. A special shout-out to Mr. Edward, with whom we had some engaging conversations. He took the time to answer all our questions and shared some very helpful tips—much appreciated! We highly recommend this hotel.

The hotel is a little dated but full of charm and character. The rooms are small but compact and the beds super comfortable and clean, however l didnt like the glass bathroom door. Even though it is frosted you could see through it and as l was sharing with a friend not partner it was a bit embarrassing. It is also very noisy and you can hear everything both inside and outside but it didnt spoil our stay, we just left the tv on low as white noise during the night which we found took away our attention from the outside noise. The hotel itself was very quiet at night Sadly downtown san francisco has really changed and as we went for the shopping we were horrified to find so many shops shut. However, there didnt seem to be as many street people about as we have found in the past and there seemed to be more of a police presence. The hotel staff were so helpful and advised us on how to get to other out of town malls instead, using the BART and local transport, which is very cheap and safe. We didnt feel threatened or lost and found it very easy to use. Plus everyone we met was super helpful and very friendly if we were unsure of which line to get. I would definitely stay there again. It was good value for money and l couldnt fault it. Lovely trip

The smaller rooms may not work for larger people, they are from early 1900s so pretty tight quarters.

There isn't any breakfast. They were welcoming of my two dogs. It's very clean and quiet other than the toilets which sound like a rocket, very powerful.

Each room had it's own coffee maker. In our first room it didn't work. We asked for it to be replaced and it didn't seem to be. It wasn't a big deal -- you can get coffee in the morning on the lobby level. Other than that we have no complaints. We enjoyed our stay and would happy to stay next time we visit San Francisco.

First of all, a very good value for San Francisco. (For the price, the place was better than expected). Centrally located (near Union Square). The rooms (we stayed twice during visit) were comfortable, clean, relatively quiet (both times on the 8th -- top -- floor). Lots of hot water in the shower. Some space to store luggage and hang clothes (more space in the first room than the second). Friendly, accomodating staff. Coffee and hot water in the morning in the lobby. Also, water to fill up your water bottles. Nice common space for hanging out on the lobby level. We recommend the place.

Strong smell of cannabis throughout the hotel on some days. Close to main roads so noisy from early in the morning, but to be expected staying in a central location in the city.

I did not like that the windows and heater were not dusted. Or that there was not a mini fridge or microwave.
