Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesPools close too early 6 pm 2nd floor, 7:30 pm lobby most hotels stay open until 10 pm and no hot tub, not enough shade umbrellas. This is a high-end priced property, needs a little bit updating/modernizing for the price.
Easily walkable convenient location. Large room and lanai. Seating options in courtyard to view marina, sunset, free hula and fireworks Fridays. Free daily waters and ice cream is a nice perk!

United StatesThe amenities -- soap, shampoo, etc -- felt cheap and didnʻt lather much. The rattan chairs on the lanai were uncomfortable and difficult to sit in because of the way they were shaped. The television remote was so old, the words on the buttons were worn away. When I was a kid, the Ilikai was considered such a glamorous, high end hotel. Time has changed the Ilikai. The building and lobby seem run down and dated, as is the elevator. The escalator at the porte-cochère was broken. I walked up with a crutch and my knee wrapped, and no one suggested I use a side porter elevator. In fact, another customer pointed out the elevator after I walked up the two flights of stairs to get to the lobby.
I was having my home tented for termites, and I had just injured my knee. I decided to stay in a hotel for two nights, but I didnʻt have enough advance time to shop around. The Ilikai luxury suites offer popped up, and the price for the studio (with kitchenette, ocean view, and king size bed) was the same as a few of the smaller 300 square foot sized hotel rooms in Waikiki. I loved the spaciousness of the studio and the view of Kahanamoku Beach. Since I had an injured knee, I stayed in the room all day to work, and I was very comfortable. Everything about the studio from the decor to the lighting over the kitchen counter was tasteful and modern. The place was really quiet too; I felt like I was the only person on the floor. The room was clean. The bed was firm, yet very comfortable. I slept well. The maid who cleaned the room was very pleasant and cleaned the room quickly and very well. The front desk staff were super nice.

United StatesThe hotel offers beach towels for guests, but do not have beach chairs and umbrellas available for use. The hotel is in a calmer area of Waikiki Beach, and you can either purchase a beach chair from the local Walmart (which would not make sense) or rent two chairs w/umbrella for $100.00 for a full day from a beach vendor (which is absurd). Illikai should really reconsider this, as guests come to their location to enjoy the beach, and are paying thousands of dollars to do so. So, give them a beach chair /umbrella to use. That's my only issue with the hotel.
The location was excellent. The hotel is in a very walkable area, and you DO NOT need to rent a car. Food, shopping, entertainment, and the beach are all within walking distance, with lots of options to choose from. The staff (and the people in general) are extremely nice and friendly. The hotel offers nice amenities, including bottled water, free scoops of ice cream daily, and even has DVD access similar to Redbox. They have Hawaiian singers and hula dancers every Friday night which is nice, and in a prime spot for the Friday night fireworks. The hotel is busy with guests leaving and new guests coming in throughout the day, but it never felt crowded. The rooms are spacious, very clean, and comfortable. The ocean view room is a "must" if you want to wake up to some of the most fantastic views ever. The full kitchen was also a plus, as we were able to purchase items at the grocery store and save on eating out for every meal. The hotel is in a very safe and walkable area both day and night. Another nice added touch is the availability of laundry machines on each floor ($3.00 each). This is a very nice convenience for guests like myself who like to take clean clothes home, or for those who want to pack light.

United StatesElevators were a bit scary. The people above us kept smoking pot (even though smoking was not allowed) and we could smell it clearly in our room and the living area, we reported it but security didn't do anything about it. Also, the pool staff were incredibly rude.
Two outdoor pools, one on the second floor and a deep pool just off the restaurant area. Neither pool allows balls or jumping into the pool. Front desk staff are amazing. The outdoor restaurant is worth a few visits and Dave's Ice Cream can't be beat. We had laundry on our floor but not in our suite. You can easily see Friday night Waikiki fireworks from the lagoon. We watched from the fence (perfect vantage point).

I was in 710 for 8 nights. Definitely subpar. That unit needs some maintenance. It was dingy, rundown, the shower curtain had mold. The curtains were coming off the walls. It was dirty and felt just dingy. However the two bedroom worked for us because I was traveling with a couple whose husband is confined to a wheel chair. For what we paid (top dollar) we should have been in a better quality unit. One night I stayed in 220 (?). It was a way nicer unit except it had spider webs and bugs on the walls. I always stay at the ilikai. It has larger rooms and good sized balconies and is in the center of everything.

United StatesThe furnishings, while clean, were a little worn. Also during busy times, it was impossible to find a chair or table at the pool which was kind of small.
The location is fantastic! It is steps from the beach and right in the heart of the resort area around Waikiki. The resort has a restaurant and a coffee shop as well as a small market store.

AustraliaAfter seven weeks in the States, I was very much over Destination / Resort Fees being charged on top of a room rate. Wifi should be a given in any hotel these days and getting an ice-cream and a bottle of water in exchange for daily $$+ was silly. US hotels, including the Ilikai, should simply advertise the transparent price.
We splurged on the junior sunset room as this was for relaxation at the end of a six-week trip. It was worth the money for that purpose.

Don't miss the fireworks on Friday night. Its a really short walk from the h otel. Just find a comfy spot by the lagoon and you will have a great view.
