How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The Resort was nice, green and pretty quiet. We could reach beaches, nice spots, restaurants and shopping center within a short distance. Betsy is a wonderful host with lots of hints, information and helpful advices.

We travel a lot and stay in many different motels, hotels and rentals. This is the only one that required a 'walk through' check in. It required us to meet at a certain time and took more of our vacation time to communicate 4 times about the same meeting time. We then waited extra time when the host was not there at agreed time.. We had to spend more time back tracking to obtain our dinner and we lost about 2 hours of our vacation time for an unnecessary walk through check in when key code box on the door for entry, written instructions provided in room and unnecessary verbal instructions not applicable for an overnight.

Verified reviewThis was a very convenient location to reach Haleakala and most of the island near Kihei. The condo was very comfortable - a little older, but very clean and there were plenty of dishes and cooking implements in the kitchen which was great for cooking simple meals. It got great cross ventilation and there are also window unit air conditioners if that's not working. We didn't use the pool or hot tub because we were out all day every day, but we peaked at them and they were small, but nice. We just never got home before they closed. The condo is reasonably close to a couple of grocery stores and to the food truck mall. The owner met us at the condo to show us how everything worked and was really helpful. He checked in with us to see if there was anything we needed during our stay. There was a big bin of beach equipment (snorkels, boogie boards, beach chairs), etc., on the porch for us to borrow if needed. There were conveniently located hoses for rinsing off the beach sand as needed. All in all, we were very satisfied and the condo met our needs very well.
The condo is right next to the communal BBQ and the folks using it were pretty loud and didn't always wrap it up at quiet hours of 9. Or else they moved onto someone's porch and kept the party going. After the first night, closed the windows and used the ACs which were very loud, but did effectively drown out the neighbors' party.
So sorry for your issues. When we check guests in we always ask them to tell us if someone in the complex is violating the quiet hour restrictions so we can help fix the situation. We could have the manager go to their unit or the BBQ area and tell them to pipe down. After the fact, learning about this only after you've checked out, we unfortunately can't do much to help. Please accept our apologies for someone else's inconsiderate behavior.

Verified reviewOwner met us on arrival and gave us a tour of the condo and facilities. Both hosts were helpful and available.
The condo was quiet, clean, and well-equipped for a multi-day stay. The only thing folks might want to consider is that it's not within easy walking distance the main part of Kihei. On the plus side, it's quieter than places further south, and the quality/value of the condo is higher.

Verified reviewWe liked the location of this condo. We had a walk through upon arrival and we enjoyed everything about this rental. The owners were very responsive to our needs and we found the condo comfortable and relaxing.
We had torrential rains one day and the flooding was a bit scary. The parking lot filled with water even the condo property flooded creating a dirty mess to clean up. Thankfully it never got into the condo, but we had a few scary moments.
Puzzling that you gave every category a 10 and then gave us an 8 overall. It does rain on Maui and unfortunately the entire Island had a flash flood warning when you stayed. For the record, no water has ever gotten in our unit because of its ideal location within the complex.

There is a lot of noise during the night. Take that into consideration if you are a light sleeper like me
Apologies but our complex has enforced quite hours from 10pm to 8am. If someone is making noise then all you have to do is call or text either us or the manager and we would fix the problem. We can't help a guest out that doesn't let us know until their review after they check-out.
