Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesReally, not a thing was off! I believe our hosts anticipated every need! Wish we could have met them to tell them how much we enjoyed their lovely property!
There was so much to like! The cottage was roomy, clean, and comfortable with all the amenities. The shower was amazing! The outdoor spaces--lanais, pool, hot tub--were lovely and had wonderful ocean views--a block or so away but still visible. And the breakfasts were a bonus touch--fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, and other options to start the day. The owners were away, but their son was wonderfully welcoming and responsive!

United StatesSteve was a great host! As he welcomed us, he provided us with an overview of our Queen Suite and the property's amenities. He also gave us dinner recommendations. The breakfast was simple, but delicious, and included locally grown fruits. Pictures on Booking.com are true to life. The location was north of downtown Hilo and was great! There is beach access (Honolii Beach - I believe that is what it was called) which is a short walk down the street from the property, We loved watching the surfers. A few miles north of the B&B is a scenic route. It has amazing scenery of the beach and cliffs and is home to Onomea Trail.

Honestly, we didn’t want to leave this place, it felt like home from the moment we arrived. The room is huge, with plenty of space and a cozy living area where you can truly relax. Everything was immaculate. The property is beautifully maintained, with a pool and a lovely terrace where you can enjoy a peaceful breakfast. We didn’t have much time to get to know the owners since they were out of town for most of our stay, but the few interactions we had were warm and friendly. The location is perfect. The property is in a quiet, family-friendly neighborhood just 10–15 minutes from downtown Hilo. At first, we were unsure about not being right in the city center, but honestly, you wouldn’t want to be once you see this place. It offers the best of both worlds: tranquility and easy access to town.

United KingdomFrom near dawn there will be continued loud birds frogs sounds outside the window until into midnight. There is a major cemetery just outside the property at the Main Street.
Beautiful house with pool and fish pond walking distance to the front surfers beach. It’s near Hilo centre and Akaka falls. The owners Sue and Steve will go beyond to help anything you need.

United StatesOrchid tree is exceptionally beautiful, totally solar powered with a beautiful pool, hot tub and landscaping, a large lanai for relaxing and the room is truly large with lounge able furniture , pristine clean. Many places we’ve stayed give you pictures that don’t really represent the place when you arrive. However orchid tree is wonderful as are the hosts, both friendly and responsive ! Breakfast was just fine with fresh fruit, yogurt, granola and a good selection of Juices , breads, cream cheese, etc as well as freshly ground coffee. (Plenty for us but if you are an egg type there’s always places in town). But the lanai, the waves crashing, the superb coffee, we didn’t need more!

United StatesStu, the owner who lives on site, met us and gave us a tour of the suite. I always appreciate when the owner does this, pointing out light switches, AC controls, etc. Breakfast is very good- cereal, yogurt, bagels, fresh fruit from the trees on the property- and is served on a large shared lanai, where you may be joined by guests in the second guest accommodation. Stu is very knowledgeable about Hawaiian history and we loved having conversations with him. Would definitely stay here again should we return to Hilo.

United StatesOrchid Tree B&B was everything we could have hoped for and more. Steve (and his wife) were excellent hosts, providing a great location while we stayed on the Hilo side of the island. The daily breakfast was a great way to start each day before we went off exploring. Steve was more than accommodating and shared his knowledge freely about places and things to see or do. And after a long day it was always nice to return to such a friendly, relaxing environment.
