How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

So many things: Great location with an easy walk to the town centre; fantastic host (Melissa and her team) in terms of friendliness, courtesy and helpful with ideas for places to try; property and room cleanliness to the highest level. You rarely come across a place kept so clean and tidy; a very comfortable and cosy room.

Absolutely nothing.
The room was a nice size, with two comfy chairs, a full sized dresser, a closet, and a good-sized bed, plus the largest, most functional mini-fridge/mini-freezer I've ever seen. In addition, one had access 24 hours to things, such as ice, in the lobby. The free parking was great, the comfy chairs and table outside the room on the front porch lovely to relax and read a book, and the women who run the reception area couldn't have been more friendly, welcoming and helpful. The location is ideal - easy to walk into the center of town (including the bus stop for the park), easy to walk to a full-size grocery store and an awesome coffee shop, and easy to get out of town without dealing with traffic. The whole place just seemed exceptionally well thought out and well-run.

Excellent location and very clean. Easy to walk everywhere. Office staff (especially the owner) was extremely helpful with recommendations of where to eat and off the trail attractions. So pleasant.

It was small but still very nice
The property was so cute and in a great location. We were able to walk to everything in downtown. Acadia national park was also only 15 minutes away. All of the staff were super helpful, friendly, and personable. We were very happy with our stay!

Our room was clean and served perfectly as our home base as we explored the hiking trails in Acadia National Park. The office staff (in particular, Melissa) were extraordinarily friendly and helpful. We got great hiking advice from Melissa!

The bathroom is tight and the A/C is noisy.
The friendly and helpful staff and location of the place. It is walkable to town. Parking in town is pricey and it's great that this place has free parking.

Pillows were very large, but that's the only negative.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. There was free coffee, tea and water refill. Walking distance to the centre of Bar Harbor and nearby supermarket. Overall extremely pleasant stay and would love to return!

Room and bathroom were very small. No coffee available in room; had to go to office. It was within walking distance, but a little more so than expected.
Clean and could walk to crowded area without the parking hassle.

There wasn't anything we would have changed about the property.
Island Place exceeded our expectations. From staff, to cleanliness, to location, Island Place was the perfect spot for our family to stay. The property is located within a very short drive to Acadia and a short walk to everything that's going on in Bar Harbor.

You had to watch the tv from bed, as the chairs were off to the side and the tv didn't rotate.
Location was ax short walk to all the attractions. Bed was comfortable.

Price/value: simply overpaid, but it seems to be the same in all the island. Considering the price, not having the breakfast is a major minus.
Very nice property, conveniently located in Bar Harbor (it gives easy access to the city with a short walk), clean and comfortable even if the rooms are not too big. The patio is great! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
