Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaWe were warned about the size of the room but even so, there was hardly any room to move around.

United States of AmericaI know it’s an old building but it may benefit them to fill the walls with sound dampening insulator as noise travels very easily across the entire property. I would also encourage them to make that “$12 resort fee” worthwhile as there’s nothing truly “resort level” offered. The bathrooms can all have full-size wall-mounted shampoo/conditioner/body wash dispensers (common in most base hotels now even), the complimentary coffee/tea/water/soda can be expanded to some quick grab and go snacks, and additionally it would be good to do a deep clean/maintenance quality check of their suites at least once a quarter. Our room was very very dusty and the shower - though nice - didn’t drain well so you end up standing in a pool of backed up water. Additionally the portable AC unit required us to keep the window open to vent the AC hot air (because it wasn’t installed properly), defeats the purpose of your window is wide open with AC running. With so few rooms and the price point they charge I would expect immaculate rooms and facilities.
The property is very cute and host great BnB vibes. The room was nice in size (had upstairs 3rd level (attic) room) and the bathrooms were updated. The staff was very friendly and willing to support as much as possible. Finally the location is 100! Walking distance to downtown and to the beach/boardwalk.

United KingdomRoom was a little small but we didn’t have any problems with this as it was only a one night stay.
Hotel building is beautiful and the staff are excellent, very friendly. They were willing to watch our bags before and after checkout which let us see more of Santa Cruz hassle free, this was a massive help and greatly appreciated.

GermanyNo complaints. We could have stayed longer and I wish we had. I'm always sad to leave Santa Cruz.
The property is gorgeous and super close to everything (did not need to drive to Pacific Ave, Wharf, and Boardwalk). Room was simple but very clean.

United KingdomThere was nothing I did not like, everything was amazing. I would definitely stay again if I were ever in santa Cruz again, the hotel and it's staff exceeded all expectations.
The room was in the attic and had a couple of windows that opened to let in the fresh air which was excellent. The room also had a fridge and an aircon unit.

United States of AmericaIt was a very small room - I had to turn sideways to get to the head of the bed, and there was no nightstand on the other side of the bed. I would suggest paying more for a larger room, as the Economy Queen (Room 8) didn’t have any seating other than the bed and didn’t have a luggage rack. (Check out the photos of the rooms on their website in addition to the photos on Booking.com.) There was a lot more noise from traffic than expected - bring your earplugs. The room smelled strongly of Lysol when we arrived, so we had to air it out.
A cool Victorian mansion with a glass case of historical objects found in the walls during the remodel. An easy walk to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the Wharf. Lovely stained glass, and cool digital locks on the front door and the guest rooms. Nice assortment of refreshments available downstairs - coffee, tea, sodas, and a large bottle of water to refill your own water bottles. The room was very clean, and there were tall windows with shutters on two sides, and a great view of the San Lorenzo River. Staff was very nice at checkin, and checkout is just signing your name on a clipboard and checking a box if you want your receipt emailed.

United KingdomThe hotel does not offer regular or green tea. They do have a variety of herbal teas, but no black or green tea at all. When prompted, member of staff said this is intentional, because in Santa Cruz people only drink herbal tea, and the majority of their guests are from Santa Cruz. Bad luck for us non Santa Cruzians..

The location was perfect- a five minute walk to the boardwalk and the beach made it possible to avoid the parking costs of the area. The room itself was very nice for the cost- it was private, spacious, and clean. The parking lot was tight, but there were plenty of spots available (there were two parking lots in total). If you’re choosing a room, know that there are two buildings: the Victorian age building (the large one) has most of the rooms, while the smaller building (newer model) has only a couple guest rooms. From what I could tell, the Victorian building was a little noisy, while the smaller building was perfect (little to no noise). Choose your room accordingly. We stayed in room #14, which I would recommend for its space and comfort (the room was located at the front of the smaller house, so it had a nice view of the surrounding area). I would definitely stay here again on any future beach trips. No complaints.
