How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Tight parking, stained sheets, changing rooms, noisy-trains and late night music,
Dear Joe, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We’re glad you appreciated our downtown location, pricing, discounts with nearby eateries, and the convenience of the elevator. However, we sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered, including the tight parking, stained sheets, room changes, and the noise from trains and late-night music. We take your concerns seriously. Our housekeeping team is reviewing our linen standards to ensure spotless rooms, and we’re improving communication to minimize room changes during your stay. Regarding parking, we are exploring options to better manage space and offer clearer guidance to guests. For noise, we’re investigating soundproofing measures and working closely with local authorities to reduce disturbances, aiming for a more restful environment. If you choose to stay with us again, please don’t hesitate to request an alternate room away from noise sources—we’ll do our best to accommodate you for a quieter and more comfortable experience. Your feedback is invaluable as we work to improve these areas, and we hope to welcome you back with a much-improved stay. Zachary Neighbors, General Manager Hotel Ruby

Dear Stacey, Thank you for sharing your experience—we’re glad to hear the check-in process went well and that overall you had a positive stay. We’re sorry for the trouble caused by the stair access to the second-floor rooms. We know how frustrating it can be to carry heavy luggage, and while elevator access is available to most areas, we’re actively exploring ways to improve accessibility for all guests. Regarding parking, we appreciate your patience and will continue working to enhance both the availability and clarity of our parking options. Verified reviewThe room and decor were very nice. Very hip. I liked the Sapphire Lounge too. Check in and out was easy. Staff was cool. Location was pretty good and having Rosie's next store was fantastic. Really liked getting the breakfast partially covered. I liked the gated entrances so that people couldn't just walk around by the rooms without legitimate access. I also liked that you had a nice little smoking area, too.
Had a problem with housekeeping. I didn't realize we had to ask for housekeeping. I asked in the morning and then we went out and came back at 4 and it hadn't been done. Kind of disappointing. The other thing was that someone could have vacuumed the carpeting outside.
Dear Lori, Thank you for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback—and for the great 8-star rating! We're so glad you enjoyed the stylish vibe, the Sapphire Lounge, our friendly team, and the added touches like gated access and Rosie's next door. It’s great to hear the little details, like the breakfast credit and smoking area, helped make your stay more comfortable. That said, we’re truly sorry for the housekeeping confusion and the missed service. You're right—it should’ve been more clearly communicated at check-in that housekeeping is by request. We’ve since reminded our team to proactively explain this to all guests to avoid any future miscommunication. As for the hallway carpeting, we agree—it deserves regular attention, and we've already flagged this with our maintenance crew to ensure those shared spaces stay as polished as the rooms themselves. We’re grateful for your kind words and your honesty. We’d love to welcome you back with an even smoother and more seamless experience next time. Zachary Neighbors, General Manager Hotel Ruby

Dear Luis, Thank you for staying with us and for sharing your feedback. I was able to nab a parking spot in the lot right in the courtyard of the hotel which was great - for only $5. They give you a breakfast voucher for the restaurant next door. The hotel is close to many restaurants and is within walking distance of Riverside Park.
Nothing - no problems!

Verified reviewIf you need a place to crash for a few hours, this place may be ok. We booked it because the listing on the booking site had it as clean, with parking, free breakfast and a gym. Well, not so fast… The check-in lady was friendly enough. I didn’t catch her name though, but she had blue hair. Check-in was fast, though. When I asked about the breakfast, I was provided with a coupon for 1 person. I mentioned that we were 2 people, but she referred to the company policy: 1 breakfast coupon per room. This is some nonsense! You rent out rooms to 2-4 people and you give them 1 coupon for breakfast? That breakfast was being redeemable at the restaurant (Rosie’s) next door. It had a value of $6 towards each of their regular menu items, or it would “pay” for 3 items listed on the coupon. No coffee, no beverages included. The free parking was not so free after all. The place had about 15 parking spots available for hotel guests. That is far less than the number of rooms. They charge $5 per night per car, and they add tax to that. If you cannot find parking there or don’t want to pay for it, you have to find street parking, but from what we saw, that was also for a fee, at least Mondays through Saturdays. Sundays seem to offer free street parking. The gym was also a misconception. Hotel Ruby itself does not have a gym onsite. Instead they ask you to walk down the street to some gym that could be used. I am not sure if there is a fee involved though. The room itself was not too bad. It was small, but pretty clean, and it had a fridge and a microwave. Flooring reminded me of upgraded Motel 6 floors. The bathroom was nice. Bedding seems old and Motel 6 style. That 60/40 fabric that makes you sweat at night. The TV didn’t work, but the check-in lady came and fixed it for us within 15 minutes. The place had an elevator, and our room was on the first floor.
Breakfast policy, parking policy, it’s not a hotel but a motel.
Dear Maren, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed and candid review. We’re sorry to hear that your experience left you feeling underwhelmed, and we truly appreciate you highlighting both the good and the frustrating aspects of your stay. We're glad the check-in process was smooth and that our front desk associate was friendly and quick to assist with your TV issue. It’s also good to know the room was clean and equipped with essentials like a fridge and microwave, and that the bathroom met your expectations. That said, we hear your concerns loud and clear regarding the breakfast policy, and we understand how disappointing it was to receive only one coupon despite booking the room for two guests. You're absolutely right—clear communication around such inclusions is essential, and we’re currently reworking how this is explained on both our website and third-party platforms, as well as at check-in. We also understand your frustration with the limited parking availability and associated fees. The number of spaces we offer is admittedly tight, and we recognize this can be inconvenient—especially when guests arrive expecting complimentary parking. We’re looking at ways to improve signage, clarify expectations during booking, and provide better information on nearby options in advance. Your point about the gym listing is valid as well. While we do offer access to a nearby facility, the absence of an onsite gym should have been clearer. We’re taking steps to update how this is described in our amenities listings to avoid future misunderstandings. Lastly, we're sorry the bedding and room design didn’t feel up to the mark. While our goal is to offer simple, clean, and functional spaces, your feedback gives us direction for future upgrades—especially when it comes to comfort materials and in-room fabrics. We truly value your feedback, and while we’re sorry to hear this may have been a “one and done” visit, we hope you’ll reconsider us in the future as we work to improve both the clarity of our offerings and the overall guest experience. Room had food in the fridge. Garbage in the garage cans. Only 1 full sized towel and there were 0 fresh towels available on site. The 1 good towel smelled. The fan in the bathroom didn’t work. There were stains on the towels and floors. Area was noisy and alot of “street people”
Thank you, Mark, for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review. It means a great deal to know that you found our breakfast enjoyable and that Jade made a warm impression—kind, attentive service is something we care deeply about at Hotel Ruby. That said, we are genuinely disappointed to hear how the condition of your room fell short in so many ways. From the leftover food and garbage to the shortage and quality of towels, this is not the experience we want for our guests. We’ll be reviewing these lapses closely with our housekeeping and maintenance teams to ensure better attention moving forward. The non-functioning fan and cleanliness concerns will be addressed with urgency. Regarding the noise and surrounding area, we understand how this may have impacted your comfort. We always ask all guests to respect one another and keep noise at a reasonable level, especially during designated rest hours. Given our central location in downtown Spokane, the vibrancy of the area can sometimes carry into the night. Our team is always available should any concerns arise during your stay—we're here to help in real-time whenever possible. Though your expectations weren’t met this time, we do hope you felt some warmth in our service and care, and we’d be grateful for another opportunity to show you the better side of our hospitality.
