This is the second time my daughter and I spend an overnight stay at the Mansion on 17th Street. We like the location, the decor, and the breakfast is simply the best. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and check-in and check-out is easy. We especially liked not having to check out until noon.

We like it just the way it is and wouldn't change a thing.

The staff were very nice. The breakfast was exceptional and the entire facility was nice.

We booked a room with a balcony however the room we had did not have one. Staff person indicated that we access the balcony via a window. That's strange. The room did not have a functioning ceiling light (either the wall switch or light bulb was defective) and the bed was too soft (cushy) for our taste. The tub shower did not drain well at all, the bracket that supports the shampoo/body wash/conditioner bottles was loosely fitted to it's support rod & was a hassle to pump out shampoo/conditioner/body wash from their containers. There was no body wash in its container & there was not much shampoo & conditioner in their containers. The tub shower curtain setup was not very good at keeping water from leaking onto the floor. The curtain itself appeared like it was not replaced in a while. It had lots of soap scum build up.

Locate is the best for walking to many downtown areas. The rooms are comfy and beautiful. The staff is amazingly friendly and welcoming. The cook to order breakfast is delicious. It is the best pre cruise stay.

    Breakfast

A bit hot due to being an old building but other than that it was a nice stay

Everything is so lovely! There is so much character within the mansion. Staff are wonderful, breakfast cooked to order. Loved it!

The ONLY downfall is something that cannot be controlled, the stairs as the only option. It wasn’t enough to hinder a future visit by any means but it can be difficult to carry luggage up flights of stairs.

    Property response:

Hi Brandi! Thanks for staying with us. Next time, feel free to leave your luggage downstairs and we will gladly stow it for you. We do that all the time! Safe travels, and we will see you again. Blessings, Rick-owner Mansion on 17th

We were in room #6. There was no view whatsoever and the room looked like it needed soom TLC. I dropped a ring and had to look under the table and bed, it was so dusty and dirty. The bathroom was decent. The service was great though. The staff was helpful and friendly.

The attic room was so small, cramped, no views and not very clean. The property itself was very nice. The dining room and veranda were really nice. The staff was great!

    Property response:

Hi! Thanks for staying with us. Both of the rooms on the top floor do not have much of a view and are priced lower than the suites on the second floor. Thank you for letting me that it was dusty under the bed. I did send our housekeeper up there after reading your review and had her redo the floor under the bed and table. I will make sure they stay on that. Safe travels! Rick-owner

Our room was on 3rd floor. Hot, had 2 fans but did little. Stayed before on 2nd floor no issue

I could not have dreamed up a more perfect place to enjoy Galveston. The mansion is gorgeous, down to the finest details. Breakfast was a delicious, intimate affair; there are only seven rooms, so the breakfast room has seven tables; I had the avocado toast and my husband had the Quiche Lorraine. Everything was divine, including the coffee. Cocktail hour was delightful, too; our hostess made cocktails to order and regaled us with Galveston history and recommendations for dinner. Our room had a peaceful, private balcony overlooking the neighborhood full of jaw-dropping Victorian homes. We were a short walk to the Strand with all its shopping and dining. It was an absolute oasis and I can't wait to go back!

The hotel totally blew us away upon arrival. Steeped in history and a knowledgeable Concierge (Aaron) who can tell you it all. The rooms were magnificent, again steeped in history. Great comfortable bed and very clean room. Breakfast was amazing, cooked fresh when ordered from a menu. Location to the The Strand was within easy walking distance and a short car journey to the Port. Ideal place to stay if travelling around or pre/post Cruise. Staff were all super friendly. Loved the informal get together at 4pm with other guests. We were all from a number of different places. Would stay here again without a shadow of a doubt. Communication via WhatsApp/Booking.com before the stay was great too.

Beautiful old home that was well decorated.

STAIRS! I was put on the 3rd floor and had to take my luggage up the stairs and back down again. There are stairs in front of the house and in the house. It’s an old house, but the 3rd floor with heavy luggage is not my idea of a nice stay.

    Property response:

Hi Cindy! Thanks for staying with us! I am sorry about the stairs, we are not allowed to have ramps or an elevator. I looked at your reservation and you did book the only room that was available. I would have happily moved you to a lower floor if we had any rooms available. I am glad you stayed with us and enjoyed the social hour. Next time you book, let me know and I will make sure you are on the first or second floor.

Great location and cool historic house with a good breakfast.

Yes, it is an old house, so some amenities are dated and/or lacking compared to a newer place.

    Property response:

Hi! Thanks for staying with us and I am glad you enjoyed your time with us! Yes, I wish we had an elevator sometimes as well. All part of owning a Historic property. Safe travels, we will see you again!
