Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI found it a little cold but better than too hot.
My room was lovely. Large and well kitted out. The Ship Tavern was fun and I had the best meal of my trip. Breakfast similarly good. Live music all the time was fantastic. The lobby is a must see for tourists.

United StatesWhat I didn't like was not the fault of the Brown Palace, but somehow my booking.com reservation got canceled or switched from a two queen to a one Queen room. The hotel was full, so they were unable to upgrade me back to the two queen. I tried reaching out to booking.com but couldn't get a single human being to tell me what the issue was. Phone number just sent me back to their web site.and my email bounced back.
The manager made a special effort to give me a discount because my original booking with booking.com had issues. I appreciate them stepping up to the plate because I couldn't get a hold of booking.com to explain the reason why my 2 queen bed room was canceled....so kudos to the Brown staff for being great at customer service! We also ate at their ship themed restaurant and had fish and chips, which were absolutely delicious.

United KingdomThe fact that unless you are a member you have to pay roughly $15 for wifi a day. For the price of the room and for a four star hotel this should be included without any further cost…
Ideal location, very large room with a huge bath. The hotel has a selection of bars to choose from, and the style of the hotel itself is charming.

United StatesI was astonished that for such a big hotel they couldn't manage to space their guests better. Loud college group roaming the halls all Saturday night followed by someone in the next room blasting the TV on Sunday night at 3am. Hardly slept all weekend.
Gorgeous old grand hotel. Comfy bed, new bathroom, good location. Also the restaurant called the Ships Tavern serves excellent food at a decent price for downtown and good drinks.

United StatesThe staff are absolutely exceptional. The location was awesome. It's such a historic building and we loved the architecture. However, the room was disappointing. The bed was so uncomfortable and we tossed and turned all night. We couldn't believe they had such hard beds in such a beautiful hotel. Also, the heater didn't work in the room. It still gets chilly in Colorado at night. Twice we had someone come up to try to fix it, to no avail. They offered us to change rooms but who wants to do that in the middle of the night? Just give us a room from the beginning that has heat. We were told a manager would reach out...... nope. Anyway, besides an uncomfortable night our stay was wonderful. Mainly because of all the reasons stated above. Also, you will have to pay extra for Wi-Fi. I can't say that I've ever been to a nice hotel that had that extra charge. It was always a perk. Interesting.

United StatesThe cost is pretty steep, but it is a historic site and not a place you’d stay on a regular basis. I also feel that the rooms are pretty small for the price.
The hotel is so beautiful and just reading about the history of it was great! The Ship Tavern is also great-great food, drinks, and their staff is wonderful!

United KingdomThe property is tired and needs a functional update, but maintaining its character. Early closure of the bar was a surprise given the location, it would have been nice to have the facility operating until 11pm during the week

United Statesour bed light did not work. Our ceiling fan made clicking sounds and louder if faster. Worst situation was the hot water for the shower took at least 10 minutes to get hot...no one expects that for a luxury hotel.

United StatesThe layout of the rooms on the floors are a bit confusing, such as the numbering is all over the place. Due to construction downtown, it was very hard to get into. But there really was not anything about the actual experience that I didn't like.
Breakfast was amazing and Ellyngtons was lovely. I deeply appreciated how they were able to sub for gluten free. I loved the espresso maker in my room and my robe. I wish I could have experienced more amenities while there.

United StatesThe place is getting very run down. Lots of scuffs, scratch marks, peeling paint and water stains in the room, the spa, the lobby. Also, I think I was singled out as a solo woman traveler. When I went to the Ship's Tavern, even though there were lots of empty tables, I was told that for walk-ins the only seating was at the bar. However, while I was eating at the bar for 45 minutes, only a couple of groups came and and least 50% of the table stayed empty.

United StatesIt was a slightly sad thing to see the lack of maintenance IE Elevator had broken Items, There were real "Chain and bolt" on some conf room doors rather than installed locks, The Breakfast service table sat in front of our room for over 10 hours as did the Towel bin The Vanity cabinet in my room lacked paint and the cabinet door that hides the plumbing yet the magnet catches were still there. The trash can in the Bathroom was too big to fit beside the toilet.
The location is great, The Conf Rooms were fresh and lovely, The Linens were wonderful and the bed was very good, The Breakfast as well as Catered Foods for the meetings were ALL Excellent.
