How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewI enjoyed the historical part. It's cool to see the building inside and spend a night.
1. The ceiling fan made a lot of noise in the room. I reported this on checkout. 2. The curtains weren't adequate to keep street light out of the room. 3. The Wifi cost $14 to use the Wi-Fi in the room. It's free in the lobby, but who's going to go sit in the lobby to use Wi-Fi. 4. The faucet in the bathroom leaked water on the countertop. Minor detail, but for a fancy hotel, they should have had this fixed.

Verified reviewThe hotel is beautiful, but the service leaves a lot to be desired. A week before our arrival, we wrote to confirm if they had a crib, and they assured us they did. However, on the day of check-in, when we arrived in the room, there was no crib. We called to request it, and they kept stalling until it was bedtime for the baby. Finally, when we pressed them due to the time, they told us they didn’t have one. They wasted our time and, even worse, lied to us. We ended up requesting a room of a lower category simply because it had two beds. The worst part was that they never gave us an explanation or showed any interest in solving the problem. With the baby asleep, my wife and I had to move all the luggage ourselves, and they never even sent a bellman. It was frustrating. The manager never showed up, they didn’t offer help or even an apology, and they didn’t send anyone to make things easier after blatantly lying to us. It was truly shameful. Don’t believe anything they tell you: here, promises are not kept, and customer service is nonexistent.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration you experienced, especially regarding the crib request and the lack of timely assistance. It’s unacceptable that we did not follow through on our commitment, communicate honestly, or offer proper support during your stay. Your feedback has been shared with our management team, and we are reviewing our processes to ensure this does not happen again.

Verified reviewMy room was lovely. Large and well kitted out. The Ship Tavern was fun and I had the best meal of my trip. Breakfast similarly good. Live music all the time was fantastic. The lobby is a must see for tourists.
I found it a little cold but better than too hot.

Verified reviewThe manager made a special effort to give me a discount because my original booking with booking.com had issues. I appreciate them stepping up to the plate because I couldn't get a hold of booking.com to explain the reason why my 2 queen bed room was canceled....so kudos to the Brown staff for being great at customer service! We also ate at their ship themed restaurant and had fish and chips, which were absolutely delicious.
What I didn't like was not the fault of the Brown Palace, but somehow my booking.com reservation got canceled or switched from a two queen to a one Queen room. The hotel was full, so they were unable to upgrade me back to the two queen. I tried reaching out to booking.com but couldn't get a single human being to tell me what the issue was. Phone number just sent me back to their web site.and my email bounced back.

Verified reviewThis was our first stay here at the Brown Palace but it won’t be our last! The hotel is a beautiful piece of living history. Be sure to read the plaques around the hotel to learn some of its history. The rooms were comfortable and quiet. The Tavern there is a great place for a cocktail in the evening!

Verified reviewIdeal location, very large room with a huge bath. The hotel has a selection of bars to choose from, and the style of the hotel itself is charming.
The fact that unless you are a member you have to pay roughly $15 for wifi a day. For the price of the room and for a four star hotel this should be included without any further cost…

The rooms are updated but keep with the historical charm! The bedding was very comfortable! The king suite was the biggest in town! Lots of presidents and stars including Taylor swift have stayed at the hotel!

Verified reviewGorgeous old grand hotel. Comfy bed, new bathroom, good location. Also the restaurant called the Ships Tavern serves excellent food at a decent price for downtown and good drinks.
I was astonished that for such a big hotel they couldn't manage to space their guests better. Loud college group roaming the halls all Saturday night followed by someone in the next room blasting the TV on Sunday night at 3am. Hardly slept all weekend.
