Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Italy...that there wasn’t much living space in the room and that no one was there to welcome me—it’s probably just a matter of habit, as here in Italy, hotels always have someone at reception.
Perfect location for a couple of days visiting the city... The room is nice and comfortable, just very small, with not much living space, but it has a beautiful view and is equipped with everything you need. Moreover, the shower is very spacious and large. I'm not used to online and self-managed check-ins and check-outs, but I must say that I had a great experience—everything went perfectly. Thank you!

United Statessmall bathrooms, sink faucet really low. a little noisy from neighboring rooms.
the location was amazing! it was in the heart of the castro but not directly on the street so it wasn’t as loud and active. it felt safe and clean. we got the bowie room and i loved that it was in the back of the building so even more privacy and less noise than if you got a room in the front. the bed was amazing (king deluxe) and having a nice tv with streaming services was relaxing. the shower was lovely tho small. the sink faucet was so low you can’t fill anything up with it (we used the shower head to fill our coffee kettle). easy to get around SF from this location. you store your luggage next door at hansens laundry. the owner was so kind and saw that we loved tea and gifted us with a herbal tea from his own collection. truly a gem and i would stay here again and again 🤍

United Statesthe whole virtual experience was strressful and calling to a number where no one picked for after 15 minutes, as I waste away in the lobby of this lodging-cant call it a hotel
the checkin with virtual desk was awful. Need to forward checkin instruction prior to arrival, as I was required to submit confidential info as I was checking in, and had no idea if it was a scam or what asking for my cr card, dr license, etc.. with NO WARNING.

United StatesThe location, roof deck, and decor were the best parts and made up for some other areas to justify the cost.
The location was the best part. The self-service piece was neat, but at times I missed having a lobby area. Because it was run without staff it felt heavily surveilled with cameras at every and all corners of the hall, entrance, roof deck which felt a little bit of an intrusion. The room was much smaller than expected, and while marketed as a suite, it felt more crowded and congested than a standard room. Also there was not a true kitchenette, with no actual fridge (just a lined open drawer for cold items) and no microwave.

United StatesSome reviews have mentioned the noise from the downstairs bar. We had a room in the back and had no noise problems at all.
Location! There aren’t many options in the Castro so we were excited to try this new (ish) facility. While the rooms are small, they are stylish and nicely appointed. Don’t miss the roof deck with its expansive views.

United StatesWater in the shower didn't get hot. It was only warm. Room temperature was also very cold and the heating system didn't get it warm. I should have packed warmer clothing to stay here.
Room was super small, but OK for just 1 person. Bed was massive and very comfy. Room was very clean. Checkout + in was clear and easy.

SeychellesEntering codes from the front door, to the elevator, to the room was a bit exhausting. Maybe they can leverage more on tech in that regard e..g tap the phone to the locks instead..
The room was gorgeous and comfortable. It's really well designed. The balcony facing the garden was just perfect for my morning coffee. Really brought out the essence of being in San Francisco. Perfectly located in Castro to really be in the heart of the LGBTQIA+ community

United StatesNothing bad but just one suggestion for a slightly easier experience with checkout. When the QR code is scanned by the person checking out, it should already be linked by you to the confirmation number. Having to go find that in my email to proceed was an unnecessary extra step, and a little stressful because a Lyft was waiting for me.

BrazilA few attention points, but only as attention points - as I would definitely stay there again: 1/ The room is not big. The space is limited - I was by myself and got the smaller room so it was not a problem, but is a limited space to hang clothes, store luggage. 2/ The mini-fridge is not that big too and not very strong - but keeping it with only a few thing you’ll be ok 3/ The bathroom is a little dark, the lights are not very strong 4/ I think it’s informed in a few places but just to highlight that the clean service is not on the package - available upon request (w/ extra fees). Anyway, the trash is removed everyday. 5/ There’s no front desk “in person” - all the check-in/out and communication is online/via phone. They usually answers fast.
I had a lovely time at the Hotel Castro. The location is AMAZING (at the heart of Castro) - literally walking distance for the main spots in Castro and in front of a supermarket Besides that a few good points: _ Black-out curtains are very effective _ Air conditioning very potent _ The balcony is great to hang out and see the movement on streets _ The building and accommodation is very new, modern and very well equipped. _ The room was very clean _ The rooftop has an awesome view

United StatesThe rooms are very tiny. I honestly can't imagine being there with another person even though the bed was large. The sink is in the room not bathroom etc. It reminds me of rooms in Tokyo. That's really the only downside.
I had to visit family at UCSF hospital and this is one of the closest, most affordable options. Most Uber rides were just $10 except for some surge one day. Very modern rooms with TVs that stream but no cable etc. The bed was very comfortable. My room on third floor was quiet I did not hear the lobby bar. There is a tiny balcony where I had coffee in the morning overlooking a peaceful area of neighbors' backyards and patios. Great location with plenty of restaurants etc. Even a nice market across the street to grab food for the room.

United StatesDidn't know what to expect from a hotel where there was no staff on site. I was blown away! For an area with such limited space it is amazing & beautifully done. The room was clean with a very modern feel to it. Lots of light and even a small balcony. The "chips" they left for me bought a round of drinks at the bar downstairs. The rosemary fries and dipping sauce are delicious! The rooftop is equally beautiful and relaxing. A special shout out to Ryan! We only communicated via text, but he was awesome! I left something behind and texted him at 2:30AM 4 days after I left. I was shocked to get an immediate response from him! He assured me he would locate my lost item and get it back to me. We texted back & forth until 3:15AM. Who does that? That is incredible service and absolutely elevated my guest experience. Thank you, Ryan! You're a Rockstar! I look forward to staying at the Hotel Castro again!
