How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewLocation is key! Midway point between Fenway and Tiffany’s! Everything is walkable. All three doorman that we encountered were amazing and kind!
The bathroom has zero room to put your things, no true vanity. The room we were in was at the end of the hallway and you can hear noise and vacuuming in the rooms next door and the hallway. I would recommend ear plugs for a quiet slumber if you sleep later than 8am.
I wish to thank this guest for taking the time to review her stay and for the stellar ratings. I'm delighted she had such a positive stay. It is true that the Eliot has an enviable location in Boston's super-convenient and elegant Back Bay district, placing so many of the city's resources just outside our doors. The hotel's bathrooms do tend to be on the smaller side, a product of our 1920's historical legacy. We have had the ability to extend more than half of our bathrooms to include extra shelving space. Guests for whom a larger bathroom is important may request one at the time of reservation and we will do our best to accommodate. I hope to have the pleasure of welcoming this guest back once again.

Verified reviewThe Eliot Hotel is well-located near major universities, shopping, and restaurants. The staff is courteous and helpful and the rooms are generously sized. Uni, the restaurant off of the lobby, provides room service and the quality of the food was excellent.
The decor is a bit dated and could use a refresh. Also, while room-service was excellent, the breakfast offered in the hotel was truly dismal and quite expensive.
I wish to thank this guest for taking the time to review her stay but regret that it did not fully meet her expectations. Prospective guests will benefit knowing that the hotel offers a continental buffet featuring both cold and warm items as well as a standard menu for a la carte options. I am sorry this guest experienced the breakfast as dismal, but appreciate the kind comments about our staff, location and UNI restaurant.

Verified reviewGreat location and great staff.
They need to update the property.
I wish to thank this guest for taking the time to review her stay and for the kind compliments about the hotel's staff and location. I regret the facilities did not meet expectations regarding being updated. The hotel is a historic hotel from the 1920's and was completely gut renovated in 1990. The public areas and room decor go through periodic changes, with the last room renovations having occurred in 2024. Prospective guests may view our photo gallery on the hotel's website to see images of our upgraded rooms and public areas as well as to obtain a better idea of what the hotel is able to offer. I hope this guest overall, enjoyed her stay in Boston and at the Eliot!

Verified reviewParking in the area is difficult and expensive. The valet cost could be factored in or included with your stay.
I wish to thank this guest for taking the time to review their stay and for the wonderful rating. It is gratifying to know this guest had such a positive experience. With respect to parking, the hotel uses a nearby garage to park guests' cars. The $65/24 hour charge is, understandably high, but it is actually less than almost all of our competitors. Parking in Boston is indeed, difficult and expensive, something we have little control over. We can always assist with recommendations for self parking at garages further away for guests whom that is an option they wish to entertain. I hope to have the pleasure of welcoming this guest back once again.

Verified reviewThe location was great, really close to restaurants, shops and park, lovely building, very nicely decorated rooms, clean.
I asked for a small jug of fresh milk for the room for my tea but they didn’t have any to give in the afternoon and to go to a 7-Eleven, they only have fresh milk in the morning which I found very a bit strange! The air conditioning was really noisy, no different fan levels, I would have had windows open instead but on main road so also noisy, the AC noise did affect our sleep.
I wish to thank this guest for taking the time to review her stay and for the kind compliments about our rooms, location and housekeeping services. I regret the issue regarding milk in the afternoon. The hotel most definitely has milk available at any time. There must have been an unfortunate misunderstanding for which I certainly apologize. Prospective guests will benefit from knowing that the hotel is undertaking a major capital improvement project to completely replace our HVAC systems to a state of the art, whisper quiet system. We have completed almost half of the hotel and will resume installation during our slower winter period to ensure guests will be able to enjoy a noise free experience.

Verified reviewLovely location. Also very cosy the room and the property. Would definitively return back
A bit expensive the car park. Should arrange something more convenient and cheaper and at least direct clients to the ones close to the hotel as an alternative
I wish to thank this guest for taking the time to review her stay and for the wonderful rating! I'm delighted she had such a positive experience and that she will "definitely return back." Prospective guests may benefit from knowing that the Eliot does not have its own garage on premises, so uses a nearby private garage to park our guests' cars. Valet parking costs $65/24 hours. We recognize that is high compared to some other cities, but we have tried to keep the rate as low as possible and it is currently lower than almost all of the competing hotels in our district. Guests are not obligated to valet park with the hotel, however, so our staff would be more than happy to make recommendations to garages further away if one is interested in self parking, just ask at the front desk. I look forward to welcoming this guest back once again!

Verified reviewLocation to Newbury Street, Fenway Park and the T. and the welcome water with chocolate chip cookies!
The exhaust fan in the bathroom was weak, so in order to avoid all the mirrors fogging up we had to leave the bathroom door ajar while showering. A small inconvenience, but nonetheless, a stronger exhaust fan would be an improvement.
Thank you for your feedback and the high ratings for our staff and cleanliness! We hope to have the opportunity to host you again!

Verified reviewGreat location, beautiful suite for family of 4, breakfast included. Very easy to access lots of attractions from the hotel. The suite was very spacious and comfortable and perfect for 2 adults and 2 children.
Our breakfast was included in our stay, when we arrived for breakfast the waiter said if we wanted cappuccinos or a different type of coffee just to ask - we ordered a cappuccino and latte - but also received a bill for $14 for same! I felt they should have pointed out that this incurred an extra cost - I felt we were paying enough for our stay that this irked me. Prior to receiving this bill the waitress gave us a bill for breakfast (it was $0.00 as it was included) but the purpose of the bill was for a tip, with a 20% tip being the suggested tip. As breakfast was a self service buffet I felt this was again a bit irksome. The only time the waitress came to our table was to deliver the bill for a tip(apart from when we later ordered drinks!!) We had stayed in other hotels on our trip(which were less expensive) and where breakfast was included and the waiting staff did not expect tips. I have to say it took from our experience at the hotel which was otherwise excellent!
I wish to thank this guest for taking the time to review her stay and for the, overall, high rating. I regret that her experience with the breakfast charges and tipping detracted from her overall experience. Its true that the Eliot offers a buffet, but as a restaurant, also offers a la carte services including specialty coffees which are not part of the buffet. I apologize this was not made completely clear. The bills generated do include a space to provide a tip, but that is not the main purpose, as tipping is certainly always optional. The bills are signed as proof of the utilization of breakfast. I am so sorry that it was received as an overzealous attempt to obtain a tip. I am delighted, however that in other respects, the experience was excellent. I do hope to have the pleasure of welcoming this guest back again.
