Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesIt would have been nice to have complimentary breakfast. It is also not accessible for those with limited mobility and other disabilities. I had to carefully guide my elderly mother up and down the stone steps along the pathway to get to our room. It was a bit stressful as a fall would have been devastating.
The suite was very clean and comfortable. We did appreciate having water, soda, tea and coffee in our suite, along with a Keurig. It was also very quiet and peaceful.

United StatesJust FYI… We actually liked this so it was fine for us, but you may want to know that many of the rooms and suites are a separate from the main building desk and spa. It was snowy and we had the proper shoes/boots. The walk is short though… no biggy!
It had very nice old world charm. Our suite had a nice sitting area and great little gas fireplace that helped make it cozy warm as was really cold that night! We enjoyed the separate livingroom. The upstairs bedroom (and bed) was very comfortable and the bathroom was very nice and quite large. The room had a few complimentary beverages which were appreciated!

United KingdomLack of forewarning that there is no service of breakfast nor of lunch available at The Inn at Montchanin Village and Spa. Ideally, an option to order breakfast at the time of booking, for the morning after your arrival at this venue would alert prospective guests that breakfast is not available on demand.
The Inn at Montchanin Village is a tranquil, well-appointed place to stay. I was very comfortable in a suite that provided a very large studio apartment (Henry Dupont) comprising a bed-sitting room with a grand fireplace, kitchen-counter, and a huge bathroom. The Inn provided comfortable and peaceful self-catering accommodation. The welcome was friendly and genuine, and all my needs were met with kindness and helpfulness by the staff at the Reception Desk. I did not request, nor did I need any housekeeping services during my stay over five days. The Spa at the Inn looked well-appointed in passing, but I did not have an opportunity to use this facility. The Krazy Kat’s restaurant, dating from the 1950s, is open for dinner service during the week and brunch and dinner service on Sundays. The hotel reception has a plentiful availability of tea and coffee for guests on a self-service basis and can recommend several catering services to deliver food to the Reception Desk. As I was an overseas visitor without access to a car, I found the absence of breakfast service at the Inn inconvenient. Janssen’s Market, just over a mile from the hotel was accessible using the transport services of Lyft or Uber and provided a good place to eat and to purchase groceries. Normally I would have walked such a short distance but the country roads with neither sidewalk (pavement) nor verge seemed an unnecessary risk to hazard. The Inn at Montchanin Village and Spa is an ideal location for a tranquil stay and had I but known in advance that the accommodation is self-catering, I would have arrived better prepared to enjoy the quietness and excellent friendly service at this hidden gem.

United StatesConsidering the daily charge, there should have been daily housekeeping. The clerk on duty the day we arrived was not exactly welcoming and hospitable.

United StatesAll of the furniture was old, which can be charming but old, mismatched and broken is not. We attempted to use an armoire for some of our clothing but were unable.
The location is superb. We visited Longwood Gardens and Winterthur, both were a short, pleasant drive. The Brandywine Valley is quite picturesque as well. The Montchanin Inn is obviously well cared for and the hosts are welcoming and accommodating. The suite where we stayed was larger than expected, consisting of a comfortable living room, a well appointed kitchen area and restful bedroom with a king size bed and a huge bathroom, with both a shower and tub. In the evening they offer wine in the main building and we took advantage of that, exploring their lounge.

United StatesMy keys kept failing which was a pain since it was raining and had to go outside to get back to the office. And while the room was immaculate & the bathroom was gorgeous and very well appointed...the bed was terrible. It was creaky, a bit lumpy, uneven & soft as were the pillows. I would go back but will request a better bed option.
The location & property are beautiful and totally charming. Like you're in the Cotswolds w old stone walkways & features, beautiful flowers & old growth trees and romantic lanterns. And they had inspirational quotes on signs tucked around the grounds. Very well designed and tended.

United StatesHaving to get our luggage to and from the parking lot which was a walk. Our room was on the third floor so lots of steps with no elevator. Ice maker in refrigerator not working and Ron was a little to dark…needed more lights.
The room was very comfortable and very well furnished. It was nice to have coffee in the room with cold drinks in the refrigerator for our use. Beautiful grounds! Also nice to have a New York Times at our door in the morning.

United StatesFor the money, I expected a lot more. I suppose we hit the point of diminishing returns. We could have had the same experience at a nice Hilton or Marriott property, for about half the cost, for example.
Location was great, and I really enjoyed how the buildings really do form a quiet little village. Especially when you consider how close it is to the hustle and bustle of Rts 1, 52, 202, and 100, it was remarkably quiet. Our room was classy, and the bed was remarkably comfortable.

United StatesThe bed in our room was a little firm for my taste. But the amenities are great, and the rooms are always spotless.
We have been coming to the Montchanin Inn for years because of its bucolic setting, and its lovely rooms and suites that allow you to truly escape into elegant luxury. We love the onsite restaurant, and the wide range of wonderful attractions nearby including Winterthur, Longwood Gardens, the Delaware Art Museum, and the shops and restaurants of the Greenville and Centreville villages.

United StatesWe were traveling with my in-laws, who are in their 90’s. At the time that I booked a two-bedroom suite, there was no notification of how many stairs we would have to navigate. I see know that there is something about that under Q&A. We were directed to go across the street and that there would be a few stairs. It turned out that there were 26 steps to get into our unit and that both bedrooms and bathrooms were on the second floor, meaning more trips up and down. Before checkout, we discovered that there was a way for them to avoid climbing half of the stairs. Wish we had known that at check-in, where I did mention that they used a walker and a cane. We still had a nice stay, but we elected to do take out (eating on the ironing board, as there is no table- we are adaptable!), rather than go out and have to navigate the stairs again.
The size of the bedrooms and bathrooms, the cleanliness, and the fact that there was a kitchenette complete with dishes and silverware.

United StatesNo significant negatives for us. Could use more and more convenient outlets for all the modern electronics we carried, but, the inn/hotel structures are from an older era.
+ Quiet, comfortable room (The Carpenter). Large, but, not a suite. Good water pressure and clean tasting tap water. Ventilation was good with AC and ceiling fan available. In-room Keurig coffee machine, microwave, and mini fridge, included several bottles of water, coffee pods, tea, and soft drinks. Good wifi connection and speed. Included a light "breakfast to go" with small muffiin, yogurt, granola, and fruit cup. The small enclave of houses/rooms is in a rural area nestled among horse farms, golf courses, and local and state parks, but, convenient to suburban amenties and Wilmington city via car.

United StatesSince you asked - the pickup-and-go breakfast from the front desk was slightly embarrassing. Minuscule yogurt and fruit cups in paper bags. The website and signs around Montchanin still advertise brunch, which we discovered they no longer serve. This was our third visit in some years, and it's apparent services have been trimmed, probably post-COVID. We stayed 3 nights and never had a room servicing. No big deal for us, we tend to keep the room tidy, but hairs on the bedsheets were a little disconcerting. We got two bottles of water when we arrived and that was it. We didn't bring any of this up at the desk, so I don't know how it would've been received. Clearly, staff and overhead has been reduced.
The setting is beautiful in spring; rooms are comfy, bathrooms spacious, pricing good. The Village is within a few miles of dozens of attractions. The Krazy Kat's restaurant is good, if a little pricy. Every dish we had was pretty-good-to-excellent. They've trimmed the hours to 3 hours a night, several days a week, so reserve your table. In all - we'll probably be back. Maybe with slightly diminished expectations.
