There are clearly some areas that money could fix. But the charm of the building, staff, and location outplay this.

Growing up in the area, I always wanted to stay at the lodge. Was all I’d hoped. The best version of quaint luxury. Property isn’t modern and she shows her age. But it really is exceptionally charming.

We had one of the two rooms with king beds, but found that it had a connecting door to the next room. We could hear phone notifications coming from that room, it was that uninsulated. It's good that there are no televisions, or we wouldn't be able to sleep! On the plus side, it was lovely to hear the tree frogs at night. In any case, privacy was not assured.

We chose this lodge both for the access to a wonderful, cool spring right outside the back door and for the classic historic features. I loved the marble floors and large bathroom sink, the historic touches in the room and the lobby, and the added feature of delicious breakfasts and dinners and ice cream parlor. I also loved the old elevator with the wooden sides. We also took the boat ride down the river, which was very informative. This is a lovely place.

The front desk seemed short staffed. Complimentary coffee was supposed to be served from 7:00 am until 9:00 am but ran out by 8:30. Never refilled. When asked about it at the front desk they replied it was past 9:00 am and coffee could be purchased in the gift shop for a fee. When gift shop attendant overheard the conversation she attempted to undo the short sightedness by offering free coffee refill. Upgrades to rooms such as TV, small refrigerator in the walk in closets, and microwave would greatly enhance and promote longer booking stays at the facility. Especially being located on the river in the middle of Forrest with no outside access except what’s at the hotel.

The ambience The history The setting The river cruise, especially the well informed, mature, seasoned guide from St.Marks on the river who grew up in the area. The river cruise was very reasonably priced at $8 per ticket in today’s overly inflated tourism prices. The staff at the restaurant were extremely friendly, helpful and professional going above and beyond in their efforts to serve.

Breakfast had a variety of food, but, not real flavorful. Pancakes were fluffy but plain. Swimming area crowded on weekends.

Dinner at the lodge restaurant was very good. Prompt service. Servers were very nice and helpful. Dinner was excellent food. Appreciate the kids menu also. Loved the soda fountain and ice cream bar. Delicious treats to enjoy on a summer day. Boat ride fun and affordable.

Late night ranger presentation by a fire near the springs would be great. Would be nice if they had a bar.

Wonderful historic lodge with great staff and excellent food. Access to the springs is just 50 yards away. Loved the boat tour. Colin Johnson, our singing Park Ranger on the tour was very knowledgable and entertaining. First time here but will be back for sure.

Property is a bit dated. Toilets are a bit sensitive.

Property located in the National Forest right by the spring. Beach is right there and so are the boat tours to see the wildlife. Everything is very convenient. Lodge has its historic charm and the staff is very helpful. I could see and feel how it was a fancy resort in its earlier days.

Our friends introduced us to this Lodge, and we simply loved our 2 night stay. The queen room we stayed in was very spacious , especially compared to other state park lodges we've previously visited. The room was also very quiet, and we appreciated that it did not have a TV. The Lodge offered a free and strong wi-fi signal for our cell phones. We really enjoyed the delicious dining options in the dining room! All of our meals were excellent!

At restaurant...Asked hostess for window facing spring and got the window facing the woods ....after observing his technique you could see he was seating by which waitress was next up for a table...next time I will call when making reservations and not online. Tried to get a suite on reservations but ended up with room #41. This room is located over the kitchen...everytime someone goes in and out of the kitchen into the dining room you can hear and feel the door swing open and close....again probably better to call instead of online. Boat tour...people should not be allowed to stand...this blocks the view for people sitting from being able to fully enjoy the beauty of the spring. Heater worked great, shower was great, bed slept well...thank for the opportunity to vent.

The quaintness and historical value. The springs, manatees, boat tour and soda shop.
